Qualifications

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

Role Overview: Manage the monthly close process, including journal entries and reconciliations. Report directly to the Controller and collaborate with senior finance and accounting team members.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare monthly general ledger reconciliations and annual audit workpapers.
• Resolve discrepancies and provide reports to the leadership team.
• Prepare daily and monthly general ledger and expense allocation journal entries.
• Review journal entries by staff accountants.
• Substantiate financial transactions and reports by researching and auditing documents.
• Provide support to auditors and prepare document schedules for footnotes and 990 tax returns.
• Supervise general ledger team members, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant hands-on experience in accounting or finance.
• Experience with electronic journal entries and general ledger reconciliations.
• At least one year of supervisory experience.
• Public accounting experience preferred.
• Nonprofit accounting experience is a plus.
• CPA preferred but not required.

Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, and accounting software such as Sage Intacct.
• Working knowledge of GAAP.
• General understanding of taxation and auditing processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks or projects with competing deadlines.
• Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently.
• High level of confidentiality.
