Description
Directly supervises employees in the General Ledger department. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Provides leadership to daily operations and special projects, including reporting and process improvement initiatives. Ensures that accounting transactions conform to U.S. GAAP and company policies. Maintains the integrity of general ledgers and assists in preparing financial statements for external reporting. Develops appropriate accounting treatments for significant financial activities and transactions, identifies opportunities for financial accounting improvements, and coordinates balance sheet account analysis.
Reviews monthly financial statements, prepares and verifies journal entries, and manages monthly closing processes to ensure timely reporting. Monitors cash flows, documents processes, and updates accounting policies. Reviews supporting schedules to ensure compliance with accounting practices and communicates with third-party financial institutions and regulators. Prepares audit schedules and responds to auditor inquiries during various audits. Interacts with field personnel, providing customer service by explaining financial activities, investigating variances, and managing re-class entries.
This role is a remote, local position requiring residence in the greater Milwaukee or Nashville area. The supervisor will lead payroll accounting functions within the General Ledger department, overseeing team management, payroll-related GL activities, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies. Key responsibilities include supervising team members, managing payroll interface processes, reconciling payroll accounts, supporting audits, and developing payroll-related accounting policies.
Qualifications include strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and payroll accounting, experience managing teams, proficiency with payroll and GL systems, analytical skills, and excellent communication.
