Job summary

WCTV in Newport Beach, CA is seeking an Accounting Specialist - Payroll & Compliance to bring payroll and labor compliance in-house for 60-70 union field employees, nonunion staff, and salaried personnel.

You will own weekly union payroll, ensure compliance with prevailing wage rules, and handle certified payroll reporting. Collaboration with Controllers and project managers will support accurate job costing and financial reporting.

Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Specialist - Payroll & Compliance to bring our payroll and labor compliance functions in-house. In this newly created role, you will own payroll processing for a workforce of 60–70 union field employees, nonunion office staff, and salaried personnel, and serve as the company’s point person for certified payroll, prevailing wage, union reporting, and labor compliance. Working closely with the Controller, project managers, and management, you will strengthen communication across departments and support accurate job costing and accounting.

What You’ll Do

• Process weekly union payroll, biweekly nonunion office payroll, and salaried employee compensation.
• Administer payroll in accordance with applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements.
• Prepare and submit weekly certified payroll reports through California DIR, LCPtracker, and other required systems.
• Prepare monthly union trust reports and reconcile union benefit contributions.
• Maintain project labor compliance records, including monthly Skilled and Trained Workforce reports.
• Reconcile payroll labor expenses to job cost reports and support other accounting functions.

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of payroll experience, preferably in construction or another union environment.
• Working knowledge of certified payroll, California prevailing wage requirements, and union fringe benefit reporting.
• Experience with LCPtracker, the California DIR eCPR system, and timekeeping software such as Econz (preferred, not required).
• Strong accuracy, organization, and ability to manage multiple recurring deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting or payroll software.
• Clear, professional communication with field staff, project managers, and management.
