Cogent Talent Solutions in Corpus Christi, TX is seeking an experienced Controller with hands-on, player-coach leadership to own month-end close across three entities and prepare consolidated financials.

Responsibilities include inventory-centric accounting, intercompany reconciliations, lender reporting, and ensuring audit-readiness. The role partners with the owner and outside CPA to deliver trustworthy numbers for decision-making.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive, full-cycle accounting experience, including personally owning the month-end close.
• Experience in an inventory-intensive business (equipment dealer, distribution, HVAC, electrical, or home services preferred), including inventory relief to cost of goods sold.
• Experience accounting for multiple entities, including intercompany reconciliation and consolidated reporting.
• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Excel (lookups, pivot tables, and reconciliations).
• Working knowledge of payroll accounting, payroll tax liabilities, and Texas sales and use tax.
• Demonstrated ability to clean up and reconcile historical records and document the corrections clearly.

Responsibilities

• Own the full monthly close for all three entities and the parent company.
• Reconcile every balance sheet account monthly across entities.
• Prepare monthly entity-level and consolidated financial statements with a written variance commentary for the Owner.
• Produce location-level reporting comparing Corpus Christi, the Valley, and Victoria on revenue, gross margin, labor cost, and overhead.
• Maintain a clean chart of accounts and enforce consistent coding across all entities.
• Inventory: manage generator inventory accounting from receipt to installation.
• Relieve inventory to cost of goods sold each month using data from RevLink and RazorSync.
• Structure inventory into sub-accounts and reconcile each one.
• Coordinate periodic physical counts and document variances.
• Track warranty reimbursements and extended warranty costs for accurate receivables and margins.
• Payroll: map Gusto payroll to QuickBooks and ensure correct postings.
• Allocate labor costs to COGS and operating expenses; reclassify as needed.
• Intercompany: record and reconcile intercompany transactions and prepare consolidations.
• Cash and lender reporting: manage cash flow forecast and lender packages.
