About Promentrs
Promentrs is a professional services firm providing high-caliber accounting and finance expertise to businesses across industries. We embed experienced professionals directly with our clients, giving them the senior-level talent they need, exactly when they need it. Whether a client is navigating a complex close, managing rapid growth, or preparing for an audit, our people step in and deliver with confidence and precision.
We're building a team of sharp, self-motivated accounting professionals who want variety, autonomy, and real impact without the constraints of a traditional in-house role. This engagement begins as a 1099 independent contractor arrangement, with the option to transition to full-time employment.
Each engagement is unique. Rather than the routine, maintenance-driven work that defines most internal accounting roles, you'll be brought in for purposeful, high-impact projects that challenge you to think critically and perform at your best. Because you work on one engagement at a time on a full-time basis, you're fully immersed in each client's environment, developing deep expertise across industries, systems, and business situations that most accountants never encounter in a traditional role.
Job Description
As an Accounting Manager at Promentrs, you will serve as a trusted, embedded accounting resource for our clients, functioning as a senior member of their accounting team while representing the quality and standards of Promentrs. You'll own the day-to-day accounting function, lead close processes, and provide the kind of thoughtful, organized financial management that gives executives the clarity to make better decisions.
What You'll Do
Financial Close & Reporting
- Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and trial balance review
- Perform and oversee bank reconciliations and inter-company eliminations
- Generate financial reports and internal management packages that are clear, accurate, and decision-ready
Client Advisory & Integration
- Integrate seamlessly into client organizations, acting as a senior member of their finance team
- Partner with client leadership to identify accounting issues, improve processes, and implement solutions
- Serve as a reliable point of contact for accounting questions, audit coordination, and cross-functional finance support
- Adapt quickly to varying industries, systems, and team structures
Controls, Compliance & Process Improvements
- Develop, implement, and document accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Identify inefficiencies and drive process improvements that increase accuracy and speed across the close cycle
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Support audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors as needed
Leadership & Collaboration
- Embrace a mentorship mindset by sharing knowledge, offering guidance, and investing in the growth of junior team members and client staff; we believe that developing others is just as important as delivering results.
- Mentor and review the work of junior accountants or client staff as applicable
- Communicate complex accounting matters clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
- Collaborate with Promentrs leadership to ensure consistent delivery quality and client satisfaction
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA license strongly preferred, or active CPA candidate)
- Big 4 public accounting experience is highly preferred
- 8-12 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity
- Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and the ability to apply technical standards across various industries and entity types
- Proven experience owning the full-cycle close process, not just participating in it
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and beyond); experience with common accounting platforms (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, Intacct, or similar) preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; you can distill complexity into clear, actionable information
- Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable managing priorities across multiple engagements or deliverables
- Prior experience in public accounting, consulting, or a multi-client environment is a strong plus
- Entrepreneurial mindset; you take ownership, operate with integrity, and thrive without being micromanaged
AI (Artificial Intelligence)
- Demonstrated proficiency with AI tools is required, including active use of Claude Cowork; candidates should be comfortable leveraging AI to streamline workflows, automate routine tasks, analyze financial data, and enhance productivity across accounting and finance functions.
