Job description

My client is an established asset-based transportation and logistics provider with a specialist bulk transportation and freight brokerage operation, looking to appoint an experienced Account Manager to support its continued growth across the United States. This is a fully remote, customer-facing position focused on managing existing shipper relationships, developing additional business opportunities and ensuring customers receive consistent, reliable transportation services.

The business operates within specialist transportation markets, including dry bulk, liquid bulk, food-grade transportation and other freight movements requiring dedicated equipment and operational expertise.

Unlike traditional Account Manager positions focused solely on customer service or shipment administration, this opportunity combines relationship management, commercial account development and close collaboration with transportation operations.

My client is looking for someone who understands the importance of maintaining strong customer relationships while actively identifying opportunities to increase freight volumes, improve profitability and expand existing accounts.

With a base salary of $70,000 to $110,000, this is an opportunity to develop your career within a specialist transportation business while working remotely from anywhere in the United States.

The Role

As an Account Manager, you'll take responsibility for managing and developing a portfolio of customer accounts within the bulk transportation market.

You'll act as a key commercial contact for your customers, understanding their transportation requirements, maintaining regular communication and ensuring their freight needs are supported effectively.

The position will involve working closely with carrier sales, operations, pricing and customer service teams to ensure shipments are executed successfully and customer expectations are consistently met.

Alongside maintaining existing relationships, you'll be expected to identify opportunities to increase shipment volumes, introduce additional transportation solutions and strengthen the company's position within each customer's supply chain.

This is a relationship-driven role with a strong commercial element, suited to someone who enjoys developing accounts rather than focusing exclusively on new business prospecting.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop an assigned portfolio of shipper customers

  • Act as a primary commercial contact for customer relationships

  • Build long-term partnerships with transportation, logistics, procurement and supply chain decision-makers

  • Understand customer freight requirements, shipping volumes, equipment needs and service expectations

  • Identify opportunities to increase shipment volumes and expand existing accounts

  • Develop account growth strategies based on customer requirements and commercial opportunities

  • Conduct regular customer meetings, account reviews and performance discussions

  • Work closely with carrier sales and operations teams to ensure reliable freight execution

  • Coordinate with internal pricing resources to develop competitive transportation solutions

  • Prepare and negotiate customer pricing, rate adjustments and commercial agreements

  • Monitor customer revenue, gross profit, margins and overall account profitability

  • Identify opportunities to introduce additional bulk transportation services

  • Support customer onboarding and implementation of new freight opportunities

  • Monitor service performance and ensure customer expectations are consistently met

  • Respond to customer concerns and work internally to resolve service issues

  • Maintain accurate customer records, account activity and commercial opportunities within CRM

  • Review customer forecasts, seasonal requirements and expected transportation volumes

  • Stay informed on bulk transportation market conditions, capacity availability and pricing trends

  • Work towards individual account retention, revenue growth and profitability objectives

  • Develop relationships across multiple departments and locations within larger customer organisations

The Experience We're Looking For

My client is interested in speaking with commercially minded logistics professionals who have experience managing customer relationships within transportation or freight brokerage.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Previous experience within account management, transportation sales, freight brokerage or third-party logistics

  • Proven ability to manage and develop existing shipper relationships

  • Strong understanding of the US domestic transportation market

  • Experience working with customer accounts involving regular freight movements

  • Understanding of freight pricing, gross profit and account profitability

  • Strong communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills

  • Experience identifying opportunities to increase customer revenue and shipment volumes

  • Confidence engaging transportation managers, logistics directors and supply chain decision-makers

  • Ability to manage customer expectations and resolve commercial or service-related issues

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Experience using CRM systems and transportation management platforms

  • Ability to work collaboratively with carrier sales, operations and pricing teams

  • A proactive approach to customer retention and account development

  • The ability to manage responsibilities independently within a remote working environment

Experience within specialist bulk transportation would be advantageous, although candidates from traditional freight brokerage or asset-based transportation backgrounds will also be considered.

Bulk Transportation Experience

My client operates within specialist transportation markets where customer requirements can be more complex than traditional truckload freight.

Relevant experience may include:

  • Dry bulk transportation

  • Liquid bulk transportation

  • Food-grade bulk transportation

  • Pneumatic tanker operations

  • Hopper transportation

  • Chemical tanker transportation

  • Agricultural commodities

  • Industrial bulk materials

  • Specialist tanker and bulk freight movements

Candidates with experience managing customers within food manufacturing, agricultural supply chains, chemical distribution or other bulk transportation sectors would be particularly attractive.

However, direct experience within every specialist transportation mode is not required.

The priority is finding someone who understands customer account management, can develop commercial relationships and is willing to build further expertise within specialist bulk transportation.

Account Growth & Customer Development

This position is about more than simply maintaining existing business.

My client wants someone who can identify opportunities within established customer relationships and turn those opportunities into additional revenue.

You'll be expected to understand how your customers operate, identify changes in their transportation requirements and develop solutions that help strengthen the relationship.

This could involve increasing volumes on existing lanes, introducing additional transportation services, supporting new customer locations or developing relationships with additional decision-makers.

The strongest Account Managers will understand that retaining customers and growing accounts go hand in hand.

You'll need to combine a customer-focused approach with strong commercial awareness, ensuring relationships remain profitable while delivering consistent service.

Working Within Specialist Transportation

Bulk transportation requires an understanding of equipment suitability, commodity requirements, loading and unloading processes and carrier capabilities.

You'll work alongside experienced transportation professionals who understand these requirements and can support the operational execution of customer freight.

While direct specialist bulk experience would be beneficial, my client is equally interested in candidates who have developed strong account management skills within other transportation markets.

Experience managing FTL, LTL, reefer, flatbed or other domestic freight accounts may provide a relevant foundation for transitioning into bulk transportation.

The Advantage of an Established Transportation Platform

My client combines the resources of an established asset-based transportation business with specialist third-party brokerage capabilities.

This provides access to transportation infrastructure, operational knowledge and carrier relationships that support the movement of specialist bulk commodities.

As an Account Manager, you'll have the opportunity to leverage these resources when developing customer relationships and identifying additional transportation opportunities.

You'll work closely with internal teams responsible for carrier procurement, pricing and freight execution, allowing you to maintain a strong focus on customer relationships and commercial account growth.

Compensation & Benefits
  • $70,000 to $110,000 annual base salary, depending on experience and previous performance

  • 100% remote position within the United States

  • Full-time permanent employment

  • Established asset-based transportation and specialist brokerage infrastructure

  • Access to carrier procurement, pricing and operational resources

  • Opportunity to manage and develop a portfolio of shipper customers

  • Exposure to specialist bulk transportation markets

  • Long-term career development and progression opportunities

Why Consider This Opportunity?

For an experienced logistics Account Manager, this opportunity offers the chance to develop customer relationships within a specialist transportation market while having the resources of an established logistics organisation behind you.

You'll have the flexibility to work remotely while maintaining responsibility for a portfolio of customers and identifying opportunities to increase their business.

The position offers a balance between customer relationship management, commercial account development and collaboration with specialist transportation teams.

With a base salary of $70,000 to $110,000, this could be an attractive next step for someone looking to continue developing their career within transportation account management.
