Job summary

Fllib in Illinois is seeking an Access Services Manager to lead the Access Services Department, coordinate ILS and ILL workflows, and drive policies and initiatives for library programs and services.

The position requires an MLS, 2+ years supervising library technical services and ILS management, and a strong commitment to customer service. It also involves managing daily workflows, staff, and external partnerships, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • ALA accredited MLS required.
  • 2+ years supervisory library technical services and ILS management.
  • Experience in a public library setting preferred.
  • Bilingual ability is a plus and nights/weekends availability.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees receiving, cataloging, classification, processing and circulation of all materials.
  • Manages the ILS and serves as main contact for system issues.
  • Provides admin oversight for bibliographic databases and resource sharing.
  • Performs original cataloging as needed.
  • Oversees department tech like website and phone systems.
  • Prepares and evaluates monthly/annual statistics.
  • Oversees hiring, training, and evaluation of staff.
  • Collaborates across departments and attends professional meetings.
  • Acts as in-charge during shifts, reallocating staff and coordinating with emergencies.

Job description

Position Overview:

Under the administration of the Library Director. The Access Services Manager works alongside other Department Managers to develop policies, procedures workflows, and innovative approaches for a variety of library programs and services. The Access Services Manager performs professional-level library services and works both independently and with other staff to execute small to large scale initiatives. This position coordinates all activities in the Access Services Department including managing the day to day workflow, ILS and ILL services.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plans, directs and manages the receiving, cataloging, classification and processing and circulation of all library materials in all formats
  • Oversees the Integrated Library System (ILS) and serves as the primary point of contact for system-related issues
  • Provides administrative oversight for the library’s technical services, bibliographic databases, and resource-sharing networks
  • Performs original cataloging of library materials as needed
  • Manages library related technologies such as but not limited to, the library’s outdoor sign, website, and phone systems
  • Preparing and evaluating monthly and annual statistical reports
  • Oversees the hiring, training, managing and evaluation of department staff
  • Collaborate with colleagues within and across departments
  • Attend professional meeting and networking groups
  • Serves as the person in charge as needed which includes reallocating staff members during a shift, opening and closing building procedures and working with outside emergency personnel
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push book carts weighing up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • May require standing for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to move and/or lift materials up to 30 pounds
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, reach, climb, balance, and sit
Qualifications
  • ALA accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science required
  • 2+ years of supervisory, library technical services and ILS management experience required
  • Previous work experience in a public library setting
  • Bilingual ability is a plus
  • Must be available to work an arrangement of days, nights & weekends
