Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in US Leaves and Disability Case Management with knowledge of applicable legislation.
  • 3 years of ADA case management experience.
  • Associate’s Degree.
  • Strong interpersonal and helping skills with superior assessment and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to work online in a paperless environment.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish would be an asset.
  • Registered professional status in disability management or health sector would be an asset.
  • Additional coursework in Occupational Health, Rehabilitation, Disability legislation, Mediation, HR would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct case assessments with employee, manager, and HR to gather information.
  • Develop understanding of return-to-work factors and plan.
  • Review information and consult LifeWorks resources to decide on approvals/denials.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance in FMLA medical certifications.
  • Coordinate RTW planning and support with employee and supervisor.
  • Attend department meetings and trainings; perform other tasks as assigned.

The primary responsibility of the Specialist of Absence and Disability Management is to facilitate and administer the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) interactive process and advise clients on reasonable accommodations. The Specialist also manages FML / Leaves and STD claims as needed.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage all accommodation claims by advising clients on options for reasonable accommodation and making recommendations regarding the best approach for managing such claims as it relates to the ADA interactive process.
  • Manage and process FMLA (and other Federal leaves as applicable) Military leaves, State leaves, company specific and STD claims.
  • Manage all DOL category claims with regards t; including re-certifications and the 2nd and 3rd opinion processes.
  • Conduct case assessments, contacting the employee and their manager / HR by telephone or email, to explain the leave management process, employee accountabilities, and gather information for assessment purposes.
  • Develop and document an understanding of the situation and the factors supporting, as well as inhibiting, a successful return to work for the employee.
  • Review all relevant information and consult with appropriate LifeWorks resources as required (nurse consultants, health professionals, supervisory team) to confirm decision (approved / denied) recommendation on FMLA, State, Company specific leaves, STD and ADA cases.
  • Analyze FMLA medical certifications and other medical documentation and ensures claim determination adheres to the required regulatory compliance timeframes.
  • Inform STD claimants of any documentation needed to process a claim, timeframe requirements, claim’s status (e.g. STD approvals, denials, and consults), or any other information necessary to manage a claim.
  • Determine an appropriate RTW goal with the employee and the employer; as well as, provide active support for the return-to work planning process between the employee and their supervisor and intervene when necessary.
  • Communicate proactively with the client representatives regarding any case management issues that may impact the workplace and RTW planning.
  • Follow all processes as laid out in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and/or as detailed in trainings/meetings.
  • Attend Case Management and Disability Management department team meetings and trainings as required.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned
What You Bring
  • 5 years of comprehensive experience in US Leaves and Disability Case Management and knowledge of the various legislative requirements.
  • 3 years of ADA case management experience
  • Associate’s Degree.
  • Strong interpersonal and helping skills along with superior assessment and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and the ability to work primarily online in a paperless environment.
  • Registered professional status within the disability management or professional health sector would be an asset.
  • Additional course work in Occupational Health, Rehabilitation, Legislation related to disability management, Mediation, Human Resource Management, Disability Insurance, Psychological and Workplace factors in disability would be an asset.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish would be an asset
