Job summary

City of San Antonio seeks a supervisor for 911 emergency call taking in the Police Department. The role oversees staff, reviews dispatches, and ensures rapid response to incidents at the 24/7 Public Safety operation. Training ranges 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with overtime during emergencies.

Work location is Public Safety Headquarters in San Antonio, with shift assignments to meet department needs and 24/7 coverage requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED recognized by TEA or a regional accrediting agency.
• Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in communications, law enforcement or related field.
• Must be able to satisfactorily complete requirement for TCOLE Telecommunicator Certificate and TCIC/NCIC, Full Access, within six (6) months of hire.
• Must meet the minimum requirements established by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement for Telecommunicators.
• Applicants for this position must pass a CJIS fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
• Must be a United States Citizen or United States Naturalized Citizen.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and evaluates staff assigned to a shift.
• Assists staff in properly dispatching and expediting police calls for service.
• Monitors 911 calls seeking Police assistance or information.
• Monitors the sending of emergency information through the computer system to the appropriate staff.
• Monitors the police burglar alarm system.
• Receives and resolves complaints concerning policies and procedures.
• Informs staff of new rules and regulations pertaining to emergency calls.
• Assists staff in properly handling emergency calls and evaluating the urgency of calls.
