Job summary

City of Atlantic Beach seeks a dedicated Emergency Communications Operator to handle 911 and non-emergency calls, dispatch officers, and maintain critical logs. The role requires strong communication under pressure, and adherence to state and federal certification standards.

You will operate NCIC/FCIC terminals, coordinate with multiple agencies, and support public safety operations in a fast-paced environment. Training and certifications are mandatory, with ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 2 years of experience, or an equivalent combination.
• Must be able to meet NCIC/FCIC certification requirements after six months of training and recertify every two years.
• Complete 360 hours of Field Training and pass knowledge tests and performance standards.
• Complete 232 hours of Emergency Communications training and pass a State certification exam.
• Obtain FEMA ICs certifications 100,200,700,800 and FEMA IS 5.A.

Responsibilities

• Answer 911, emergency and non-emergency calls; obtain vital information and refer callers to appropriate agencies.
• Maintain, update, and file logs, information cards, tapes, and other records daily.
• Transmit orders and receive messages from law enforcement, fire, and other units; determine priority and number of units to dispatch.
• Obtain pertinent information and coordinate with agencies; stay informed about routes and closures.
• Coordinate joint emergency response and investigations with other entities.
• Operate NCIC/FCIC computer terminal and manage data within multiple systems.
• Prepare data to assist officers in reports and generate administrative reports.
