Job summary

Thomas College in Waterville, Maine, is seeking a Security Officer dedicated to protecting students, staff and visitors. You will conduct interior and exterior patrols, respond to incidents, monitor parking, and collaborate with campus departments while maintaining calm leadership during emergencies.

The role requires lifting up to 50 lbs, a valid driver’s license, and a background check. CPR/First Aid, BBP training, and OSH A compliance are anticipated; strong communication and customer service

Qualifications

• Experience in Safety or Security or closely related field.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required; secondary education preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
• Valid Driver's License and clear criminal background check.
• CPR/First Aid, AED certification (or complete within 30 days of hire).
• OSH A Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) training required or offered on hire.

Responsibilities

• Conduct interior and exterior patrols of campus buildings and grounds.
• Respond to and investigate safety and security incidents.
• Monitor parking compliance and issue citations as needed.
• Collaborate with campus staff or departments as needed.
• Attend mandatory department staff meetings and campus events requiring security.
• Notify Directors of Safety and Security and College administration of emergencies or threats.

This position is responsible for ensuring the reasonable protectionand safety for students, staff, visitors and property of ThomasCollege. This position requires a high level of customer serviceand professionalism to be demonstrated at all times while serving adiverse campus community. Individuals serving in this position mustbe able to work independently, using sound judgement andproblem-solving skills to address issues that may arise.Individuals must also be able to react to emergency situations in acalm and collected manner while demonstrating a leadership roleduring incident management.

The Security Officer will conduct interior and exterior patrols ofcampus buildings and grounds. Responds to and investigates safety& security related incidents. Monitors parking compliance andissues citations as necessary. Works collaboratively to assistother campus staff or departments as needed. Attends mandatorydepartment staff meetings and campus events requiring largesecurity operation (i.e. Commencement, etc.). Notifies the Directorof Safety and Security, Assistant Director of Safety &Security, and / or College administration of any campus emergenciesor threats.

The qualified candidate must have the ability lift up to 50 lbs.Physical ability to perform the duties of an office and patrolenvironment (both on foot and with vehicle) as well as timelyresponse and effective assistance with any emergency situations.May encounter inclement weather conditions & be able to performaccordingly. Ability to work all possible shifts in any given24-hour period.

Must have Experience in a Safety, Security or closely relatedfield. Industry related certifications, training or credentialingpreferred. High School Diploma with secondary education preferred.Strong interpersonal, Written and Verbal Communication skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and generalcomputer-based applications. Customer service focus while alwayspromoting a positive attitude. Valid Driver’s License and ClearCriminal Background Check. Current CPR/First Aid, AED Certification(or completion within 30 days of hire). Required to receive OSHABlood borne Pathogen (BBP) training and will be offered theHepatitis B vaccination.
