This position is responsible for ensuring the reasonable protection and safety for students, staff, visitors and property of Thomas College. This position requires a high level of customer service and professionalism to be demonstrated at all times while serving a diverse campus community. Individuals serving in this position must be able to work independently, using sound judgement and problem-solving skills to address issues that may arise. Individuals must also be able to react to emergency situations in a calm and collected manner while demonstrating a leadership role during incident management.
The Security Officer will conduct interior and exterior patrols of campus buildings and grounds. Responds to and investigates safety & security related incidents. Monitors parking compliance and issues citations as necessary. Works collaboratively to assist other campus staff or departments as needed. Attends mandatory department staff meetings and campus events requiring large security operation (i.e. Commencement, etc.). Notifies the Director of Safety and Security, Assistant Director of Safety & Security, and / or College administration of any campus emergencies or threats.
The qualified candidate must have the ability lift up to 50 lbs. Physical ability to perform the duties of an office and patrol environment (both on foot and with vehicle) as well as timely response and effective assistance with any emergency situations. May encounter inclement weather conditions & be able to perform accordingly. Ability to work all possible shifts in any given 24-hour period.
Must have Experience in a Safety, Security or closely related field. Industry related certifications, training or credentialing preferred. High School Diploma with secondary education preferred. Strong interpersonal, Written and Verbal Communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and general computer-based applications. Customer service focus while always promoting a positive attitude. Valid Driver's License and Clear Criminal Background Check. Current CPR/First Aid, AED Certification (or completion within 30 days of hire). Required to receive OSHA Blood borne Pathogen (BBP) training and will be offered the Hepatitis B vaccination.
