Job summary

Advocate Health in Charlotte, NC is seeking a part-time Histology Technician for the Carolinas Medical Center Lab: Histology. The role includes frozen section prep, routine and special stains, and assisting with autopsies as needed.

You will prepare and organize tissue specimens, ensure accurate testing, and maintain proper storage of slides and blocks. This position is 2nd shift with a sign-on bonus eligibility and requires HT/HTL ASCP certification or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an HT or HTL (ASCP) program and must obtain certification within one year of completing program or hire date.
• Or certified HT/HTL ASCP with 1 year of experience.
• Or uncertified HT with 3+ years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs frozen section preparations within expected time while ensuring tissue is embedded properly, cut accurately, and stained correctly so that diagnosis to clinician can be made promptly.
• Performs routine, special stains, and immune histochemical stains.
• Recognizes deviations from expected results and uses judgment in determining appropriate actions.
• Assists with autopsies according to standard procedures as assigned.
• Prepares and organizes tissue specimens and assists in gross examination.
• Prepares specimens to be sent to other laboratories for testing ensuring order accuracy and correct lab is chosen for testing.
• Stores or disposes of prepared specimens, slides, and blocks in a neat retrievable manner.
• Completes required daily procedures with accuracy.
