Job summary

Advocate Health in Charlotte, NC, seeks a Histology Lab Technician for the Carolinas Medical Center - Lab: Histology department. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with benefits eligible and a pay range of $28.55 to $42.85 per hour.

Responsibilities include preparing frozen sections, routine and special stains, and assisting with autopsies. Candidates must be enrolled in an HT/HTL (ASCP) program or certified, with required experience as outlined.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an HT or HTL (ASCP) program and must obtain certification within one year of completing program or hire.
• Alternatively, certified HT or HTL (ASCP) with 1 year of experience required or uncertified HT with 3+ years of experience.
• Demonstrates knowledge of histology laboratory practices and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Performs frozen section preparations within expected time while ensuring tissue is embedded properly, cut accurately, and stained correctly so that diagnosis to clinician can be made promptly.
• Performs routine, special stains, and immune histochemical stains.
• Recognizes deviations from expected results and uses judgment in determining appropriate actions.
• Assists with autopsies according to standard procedures as assigned.
• Prepares and organizes tissue specimens and assists in gross examination.
• Prepares specimens to be sent to other laboratories for testing ensuring order accuracy and correct lab is chosen for testing.
• Stores or disposes of prepared specimens, slides, and blocks in a neat retrievable manner.
