Job summary

Advocate Health Care in Winston-Salem, NC, is seeking a full-time Histology Technician for Dermatology Surgery. You will ensure accurate accessioning, staining, labeling, and timely processing of specimens, with no weekends, holidays or on-call requirements.

The role requires an ASCP/HT background preferred, an associate degree or higher, and strong communication, dexterity, and data-entry skills, with the ability to work independently in a busy lab.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in applied science or HS diploma/GED with two years training as defined by relevant boards.
• Three years' experience in a clinical histology lab preferred.
• HT (ASCP) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to hospital standards to promote a cooperative environment.
• Accessioning, labeling and billing of specimens accurately and promptly.
• Processing and staining of specimens according to departmental practices.
• Provide maximum care in identification procedures when processing patient specimens.
• Performs special stains and/or enzyme histochemical stains.
• Performs additional Anatomic Pathology lab procedures.
• Continues self-study and continuing education to improve skills.
• Contributes to smooth operation of the section and department.
• Wear protective equipment and follow policies to prevent exposure to hazards.
