Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Histology Technician for the Baycare Medical Center: Histology unit. You will ensure specimens are properly accessioned, embedded, stained, and reviewed under supervision, with emphasis on quality and safety.

The role requires HT certification and an advanced biology background. Expect 2nd shift hours (1:00 PM–9:30 PM), with occasional weekends and holidays. This is a full-time position in a major health network with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• HT certification (ASCP BOC) required.
• Advanced training beyond high school in Biology or related field.

Responsibilities

• Accession specimens and label appropriately.
• Embed tissue in paraffin blocks and manage slides.
• Process tissue using tissue processors for preservation.
• Perform routine and special stains, IHC, cover slips, verification and distribution.
• Manage daily workflow for recuts, stains, IHC, controls and sends.
• Document quality control and take corrective action.
• Maintain and repair laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Assist pathologists during frozen section procedures.
• Ensure compliance with accrediting standards.
• Support pathologists, externs, and team members.
