Job summary

Colonna's Shipyard, Inc. is seeking a 1st Class Crane Operator for the 2nd shift to ensure the safe operation of cranes in our Norfolk, VA shipyard.

You will lift, move, and position heavy materials aboard vessels, coordinating with riggers and crew to maintain safety and efficiency. The role requires advanced crane operation knowledge, strong safety focus, and the ability to work in a collaborative team with other trades.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of crane operation experience, preferably in a marine or shipyard environment.
• Expertise in crane operation, load handling, and rigging with strong safety practices.
• Ability to lift heavy materials, work at heights, and operate in confined spaces.
• crane operation certifications are required.

Responsibilities

• Operate various cranes (mobile, overhead, tower) to lift and position materials within the shipyard and on vessels.
• Assess load weights and rig loads safely using appropriate methods and equipment.
• Coordinate with riggers, signalpersons, and crew to ensure clear communication during crane operations.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to keep equipment reliable and safe.
• Maintain records of lift plans, maintenance logs, and inspection reports for compliance.
