Job summary

Colonna's Shipyard, Inc. seeks a Lead Mechanic Rigger (2nd Shift) for Steel America in Norfolk, VA. You will lead a small team, mentor tradespeople, and ensure work is safe, efficient, and high quality on ship repair/industrial fabrication projects.

The role requires hands-on execution of routine and non-routine duties, crane and rigging operations, and attendance beyond normal hours with travel as needed; flexible schedule to support production.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Registered Apprentice (grad) or HS + 5 years related trade experience (in the trade to be supervised).
• Experience operating overhead cranes, mobile cranes, and/or heavy mobile equipment (eg. forklifts, etc.).
• Experience with crane signals, rigging practices, and platform/gangway setting.
• Ability to read job specs, drawings, and technical references.
• Regular, reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Execute routine and non-routine production duties to meet project goals and comply with procedures.
• Perform skilled tasks related to crane/rigging and ship repair/industrial fabrication operations.
• Assist management to facilitate daily production and ensure tools/equipment are available for safe work.
• Provide training, mentoring, and supervision to assigned crew when needed.
• Contribute to POD planning and resource allocation to meet project requirements.
• Evaluate job sites to ensure safe setups and efficient work evolutions.
• Ensure adherence to all contract requirements, drawings, procedures and work instructions.
