Job summary

Colonna’s Shipyard, Steel America division, is seeking a 2nd Shift 1st Class Shipfitter to fabricate, assemble, and install structural components aboard ships in Norfolk, VA. Candidates should have extensive shipfitting experience, strong welding skills (FCAW), and the ability to read blueprints and interpret technical drawings.

Position requires physical work, ability to work beyond standard hours, and potential limited travel.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of shipfitting experience in a marine/shipyard environment or completion of a relevant registered apprenticeship.
• Proficient in metalworking, welding, and blueprint interpretation.
• Strong understanding of ship construction and structural integrity.

Responsibilities

• Cut and fabricate metal components using tools and machinery.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
• Assemble and install bulkheads, frames, and decks to project specs.
• Weld using FCAW techniques; tack welding as needed.
• Inspect work and ensure compliance with standards.
