Job summary

Consumers Energy is hiring an Automotive & Equipment (A/E) Mechanic to join a 2nd shift in a 24/7 operation at Grand Rapids Service Center. You will inspect, diagnose, and repair hydraulic, braking, fuel, and electrical systems in heavy machinery and vehicles.

Role requires a high school diploma or GED, 2+ years of hands-on A/E experience, and the ability to obtain a CDL-X within 89 days. Union environment with variable schedules and overtime potential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; two+ years of hands-on experience as an A/E Mechanic or equivalent with heavy machinery.
• Must pass substance/alcohol test and background screen per FMCSA requirements.
• Candidate must obtain a Commercial Driver's License with a Hazardous Endorsement (CDL-X) within 89 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair hydraulic systems, brakes, carburetion and emissions, and electrical systems.
• Tune engines using analyzers and diagnose front-end suspension and cylinder heads.
• Perform incidental welding, cutting, and brazing; assist with regular inspections of man lift equipment.
• Work a minimum of 40 hours per week in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
