Job summary

Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy, is hiring an Automotive & Equipment (A/E) Mechanic at the Grand Rapids Service Center in Grand Rapids, MI. The role supports a 2nd shift in a 24/7 operation, performing mechanical work on vehicles and equipment under directive supervision.

Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing hydraulic, brake, electrical, and emission systems, tuning engines, and performing ancillary welding.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED with two or more years of experience as an A/E Mechanic or equivalent with hands on experience working with heavy machinery
• Must successfully pass a test for controlled substance and alcohol and may be subject to a background screen per FMCSA
• Candidate must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License with a Hazardous Endorsement (CDL-X) within 89 days of hire

Responsibilities

• Inspecting, diagnosing, adjusting and repairing hydraulic, air conditioning, brake, electrical systems
• Tuning engines using analyzers
• Diagnosing front-end suspension and cylinder head issues
• Performing minor welding, cutting, heating, and brazing
• May be required to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays for storms and emergencies
