Job summary

Colonna's Shipyard, Inc. is seeking a 2nd Class Rigger to support safe handling and securing of heavy loads in a shipyard setting. You will work onsite in Norfolk, VA, using rigging gear, hoists, and cranes under supervision to ensure efficient operations.

We expect at least 3 years of rigging experience, ability to read technical drawings, and comfort with working at heights and in confined spaces. Travel is minimal; position offers a competitive pay range and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 3 years of rigging experience in marine or shipyard settings.
• Proficient with rigging gear, hoists, and cranes; basic load calculations understood.
• Able to lift heavy materials, work at heights, and in confined spaces.
• Able to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate rigging equipment to move and secure heavy loads.
• Secure loads using proper rigging techniques to prevent shifting.
• Inspect gear regularly and perform maintenance to ensure safety.
• Read schematics and lifting plans to determine appropriate methods.
• Assist in calculating weights and select best rigging approaches.
• Maintain records of rigging operations and coordinate with team.
