Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, Virginia, is seeking 10 Riggers to join our Rigging department. The roles are based in Norfolk with shifts from 06:00–14:45 and 15:00–23:00.

Responsibilities include fabricating, installing and repairing rigging and weight handling gear on ships, attaching hoists, signaling cranes to move loads, and moving heavy loads with tug boats and yard boats. OSHA knowledge is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in rigging and weight handling gear on ships.
• Thorough knowledge of shackles, ropes and crane signals.
• Ability to move heavy loads and operate lifting equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Fabricates, installs and repairs rigging and weight handling gear on ships.
• Attaches hoists and pulling gear to lift, move, remove, install or position machinery and loads aboard ships.
• Signals cranes or other equipment to move loads and controls movement of heavy equipment.
• Moves barges and derricks with tug boats and yard boats.
• Works in engine rooms and confined spaces as required.
