Job summary

Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, NC is seeking a Switchboard Operator to manage a high volume of calls, alerts, and communication requests while upholding HIPAA, accuracy, and professionalism. You will route calls, support emergency notifications, and coordinate timely communication between clinical staff, responders, and security.

This PRN, on-site role supports hospital operations with 24/7 coverage and requires strong multitasking and logging skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong communication and confidentiality skills (HIPAA).
• Ability to stay calm and prioritize in fast-paced, emergency situations.
• Experience with multiple communication systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize and respond to multiple inbound calls and emergencies with professionalism.
• Handle hospital calls including extensions and patient rooms with clear assistance.
• Perform paging, code alerts, and overhead announcements for emergencies and routine communications.
• Coordinate with staff, responders, and security to ensure timely communication.
• Maintain and update switchboard records and logs including room assignments and admissions.
