Job summary

WoodmenLife in Omaha is seeking a Scrum Master Intern for Summer 2027. You will join an Agile team, facilitate ceremonies, and help the group plan, track progress, and continuously improve.

This 10-week internship offers real-world experience, mentorship, and exposure to leadership across the Business Technology division. You'll partner with Product Owners, work with Azure DevOps and Microsoft 365, and participate in PI Planning and stakeholder communications.

Qualifications

  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior in college with area of study in Business Administration, Project Management, Information Systems or related fields
  • Must have a 3.5 or higher GPA
  • Ability to work 38.75 hours per week
  • Proficient computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Aptitude to learn Agile tools that support metrics and tracking iterative development (ADO, VSTS, Jira)
  • The ability to provide seamless, trustworthy, attentive and resourceful (S.T.A.R.) customer service
  • Passion for making an impact in local communities
  • Familiarity with Agile ceremonies such as Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives
  • Basic knowledge of Agile metrics (e.g., velocity, predictability, delivery cadence) and their role in team performance
  • Collaboration: Actively supports others and builds strong relationships by embracing teamwork, valuing diverse perspectives, and exchanging constructive feedback to achieve shared success
  • Communicated Effectively: Clearly and promptly shares information with others, actively listens for understanding, and delivers concise verbal and written communication to internal and external stakeholders
  • Growth Mindset: Demonstrates adaptability and resilience by embracing challenges, learning from experience, and supporting change to continuously grow and improve

Responsibilities

  • Gain broad exposure to the WoodmenLife organization by meeting weekly with the Internship Cohort, collectively with Executive Leadership, and one-on-one with leaders at the division level
  • Summarize and present capstone presentation of the internship experience including project accomplishments, skill development, and key learnings
  • Serve as a key member of the Agile intern team through the Scrum Master role
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Backlog Refinement, Reviews/Demos, and Retrospectives to support team collaboration and delivery
  • Participate in Scaled Agile activities such as PI Planning and cross-team coordination, representing the team in broader planning sessions
  • Support the team in identifying and resolving impediments, managing dependencies, and maintaining a healthy, prioritized backlog in partnership with Product Owners
  • Coach team members on Agile principles, tools, and best practices to promote self-management, continuous improvement, and effective collaboration
  • Use team metrics (e.g., quality, cadence, predictability) to identify improvement opportunities and guide the team toward higher performance
  • Assist with user story estimation and forecasting to help the team plan and deliver work effectively
  • Actively seek mentorship and participate in learning communities to grow knowledge of Lean-Agile techniques and Scrum Master responsibilities
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and risks to leadership and support the team in using Agile tools such as Azure DevOps and Microsoft 365

Scrum Master Intern – Summer 2027

In this role, you will assist with a variety of administrative functions by providing support that will help the Business Technology division meet daily objectives. Accomplished through exposure to the planning, execution and evaluation stages of various work projects and initiatives, to gain workplace experience in the insurance industry.

We are looking for someone to:
