WoodmenLife is seeking a Product Owner Intern for Summer 2027 to join our agile team. You will help translate business needs into actionable user stories, participate in sprint planning, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver value to end users.

The role is a 10-week summer internship for college students in Business Admin / PM / IS with a 3.5+ GPA, and a eagerness to learn in an innovative, community-focused environment. Hybrid work with mentorship and real-world project exposure.

Product Owner Intern – Summer 2027

WoodmenLife is looking for a Product Owner Intern to join our team! Ready to make an impact this summer? In this role, you will assist with a variety of administrative functions by providing support that will help the Business Technology and Strategic Initiatives divisions meet daily objectives. Accomplished through exposure to the planning, execution and evaluation stages of various work projects and initiatives, to gain workplace experience in the insurance industry.

Our 10-week Summer Internship Program strives to foster a dynamic and innovative work environment by integrating interns who bring fresh perspectives and skills to our organization, contribute to value added work, and enhance our talent pipeline. We are committed to supporting our interns with real world experience and mentorship to help prepare them for meaningful careers to make a positive impact in their communities.

We are looking for someone to:
  • Gain broad exposure to the WoodmenLife organization by meeting weekly with the Internship Cohort, collectively with Executive Leadership, and one-on-one with leaders at the division level.
  • Summarize and present capstone presentation of the internship experience including project accomplishments, skill development, and key learnings.
  • Serve as a key member of the Agile team, acting as the business owner or customer proxy to define and prioritize user stories in the team backlog.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure backlog items reflect business needs and deliver maximum value to end users.
  • Take a leading role in ensuring that user stories meet the Definition of Done and align with strategic objectives.
  • Act as a liaison between the development team and business units to translate product features and user requirements into actionable stories.
  • Apply strong analytical and logical thinking to break down larger epics into smaller, valuable stories that can be delivered within Agile iterations.
  • Create clear, concise, and testable user stories that are independent, negotiable, valuable, estimable, small, and testable (INVEST criteria).
  • Participate in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, to deliver high-quality software in a collaborative environment.
We Need Someone Who Has:
  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior in college with area of study in Business Administration, Project Management, Information Systems or related fields
  • Must have a 3.5 or higher GPA
  • Ability to work 38.75 hours per week
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively while working collaboratively.
  • Proficient computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • The ability to provide seamless, trustworthy, attentive and resourceful (S.T.A.R.) customer service.
  • Passion for making an impact in local communities
  • Communicated Effectively: Clearly and promptly shares information with others, actively listens for understanding, and delivers concise verbal and written communication to internal and external stakeholders.
