Job summary

WoodmenLife in Omaha is seeking an Accounting Intern for Summer 2027. You will gain exposure to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, financial reporting, tax, and CSR projects while supporting the Accounting division.

This 10-week program emphasizes mentorship, real-world experience, teamwork, and community impact, with a hybrid work environment and opportunities to present your capstone project to leadership.

Qualifications

  • Sophomore, junior or senior in college with accounting/finance/business administration focus.
  • GPA 3.0 or higher required.
  • Ability to work 38.75 hours per week.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and effective communication.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Accounts Payable processes and payment coding.
  • Assist with Accounts Receivable tasks such as applying payments and reconciling accounts.
  • Support Financial Reporting and annual statement preparation activities.
  • Help with tax returns and unclaimed property/unemployment filings basics.
  • Develop professional business communications with internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to CSR projects and other accounting initiatives.

Accounting Intern – Summer 2027

WoodmenLife is looking for an Accounting Intern to join our team! Ready to make an impact this summer? In this role, you will assist with a variety of administrative functions by providing support that will help the Accounting division meet daily objectives. Accomplished through exposure to the planning, execution and evaluation stages of various work projects and initiatives, to gain workplace experience in the insurance industry.

Our 10-week Summer Internship Program strives to foster a dynamic and innovative work environment by integrating interns who bring fresh perspectives and skills to our organization, contribute to value added work, and enhance our talent pipeline. We Are Looking For Someone To:
  • Gain broad exposure to the WoodmenLife organization by meeting weekly with the Internship Cohort, collectively with Executive Leadership, and one-on-one with leaders at the division level.
  • Summarize and present capstone presentation of the internship experience including project accomplishments, skill development, and key learnings.
  • Accounts Payable: Gain an in-depth introduction to Accounts Payable processes such as coding and processing payments.
  • Accounts Receivable: Gain an in-depth introduction to various Accounts Receivable processes, such as applying payments, researching, and corresponding with Sales Representatives and members.
  • Accounting Services: Gain in-depth exposure to processes and procedures of Corporate Social Responsibility projects.
  • Financial Reporting: Provide financial statement and regulatory filing support while developing an understanding of the Annual Statement preparation process.
  • Tax: Process and complete certain tax returns and gain an in-depth introduction to unclaimed property and unemployment filings.
  • Business Communication: Develop professional business communications through engagement(s) with internal stakeholders across various business units from start to completion.
  • Other Accounting projects as assigned.
We Need Someone Who Has:
  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior in college with area of study in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field(s)
  • Must have a 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Ability to work 38.75 hours per week
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • The ability to provide seamless, trustworthy, attentive and resourceful (S.T.A.R.) customer service.
