Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools seeks a dedicated Paraeducator to provide one-on-one support for a student with a disability and assist certificated staff with instructional and personal care tasks during the school day.

The role requires completion of the state General Paraeducator Certificate, plus training hours; incumbents will support varied disabilities, participate in data collection, and assist with daily activities and assessments as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 72 credit hours, or passing state test.
• CPR/First Aid certification within 90 days or willingness to be trained.
• Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist with personal care tasks.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students individually or in small groups as directed by the teacher.
• Assist with self-care activities and daily living needs as assigned.
• Supervise students during recess, bus loading, and transitions.
• Record student progress and communicate with teachers and families as needed.
• Use adaptive equipment and assist with classroom management as directed.
