Job Title : Specification Review Team Engineer
Job Type : Full Time
Job Purpose :-
To review technical specifications and contractual requirements for marine and offshore electrical systems, and to support technical and commercial quotation preparation, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and optimized cost-risk balance.
Key Responsibilities
- Review client specifications, tender documents, shipyard standards, and class requirements for: Marine propulsion motors and starters
Main switchboards (MSB) and sub-switchboards (SSB) Switchgear, MCCs, and offshore control panels
- Identify technical requirements, deviations, ambiguities, and risks during the tender and execution phases.
- Prepare technical clarification questions (TQs / TCs) and deviation lists.
2. Quotation Preparation & Tender Support
- Support the quotation and tendering process by:
Translating technical specifications into clear quotation scopes and technical descriptions
Defining system configurations, ratings, redundancy concepts, and optional items
- Prepare or review: Technical parts of quotations
Scope of supply and exclusions
Technical assumptions and compliance statements
- Identify specification requirements that impact: Cost
Delivery schedule
Manufacturing and testing scope (FAT / class witness)
- Coordinate with procurement and engineering teams for:
Cost estimation
Key component selection (VFDs, breakers, motors, transformers, protection relays)
- Support clarification meetings with clients, shipyards, and partners during bid evaluation.
3. Standards & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations, including:
IEC / IEEE standards
IACS class rules (ABS, DNV, LR, BV, CCS, etc.)
Marine and offshore electrical safety requirements
- Verify ratings such as:
Short-circuit withstand
Insulation level
IP degree
Temperature rise and redundancy requirements
4. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Act as a technical interface between:
Sales
Engineering
Procurement
Project management
- Ensure tender requirements are properly transferred into project execution documents after order award.
5. Documentation & Approval
- Review and comment on:
Single-line diagrams
GA drawings
Control philosophy and functional descriptions
Datasheets and technical calculations
- Support class approval, client approval, and FAT documentation.
6. Risk & Cost Awareness
- Highlight commercial and technical risks arising from specifications.
- Support value engineering and alternative solutions while maintaining compliance.
- Assist management in technical decision-making during tender and negotiation stages.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Diploma or higher in Power Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Marine Engineering (Electrical)
Experience
- 1-2 years' experience in Marine or offshore electrical systems Electrical system integration, switchboard manufacturing, or propulsion systems
- Experience in technical tendering or quotation preparation is highly preferred.
- Fresh graduates can be considered as junior position.
Technical Knowledge
- Marine propulsion systems and motor starters (DOL, soft starter, VFD)
- LV / MV switchboards, MCCs, and protection systems
- Power distribution, short-circuit levels, and protection coordination
- Class approval and shipyard working practices
Skills & Competencies
- Strong specification interpretation and quotation support skills
- Good commercial awareness and cost sensitivity
- Clear technical writing and communication skills in English
- Ability to work with multinational clients, shipyards, and class societies
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Offshore platforms, FPSO, DP vessels experience
- Knowledge of PMS and propulsion control systems
- FAT / SAT experience
