Job description
Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Unix / Linux System Administrator to join our client's technology team. This role will be responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and performance of our mission-critical systems across production, disaster recovery, and test environments. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in Unix/Linux administration, middleware support, and IT infrastructure operations, with a strong focus on reliability, automation, and continuous improvement.

System Administration & Operations
  • Perform administration and maintenance of Sun Solaris and Linux-based servers across production, DR, and test environments.
  • Upgrade, patch, and harden operating systems and middleware to ensure compliance and security.
  • Manage password and certificate renewals, infrastructure component obsolescence, and system backups.
  • Design, implement, and test disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
  • Manage and maintain UAT environments, ensuring availability for testing and project support.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for systems, middleware, and infrastructure.
  • Provide advanced (Level 3) technical support and guidance to end-users and IT teams.
Incident & Problem Management
  • Resolve incidents and service requests in line with SLAs.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to improve service stability.
Change & Release Management
  • Plan, schedule, and implement system changes following established change management processes.
  • Package and deploy application changes using deployment tools.
Configuration & Performance Management
  • Maintain a comprehensive system configuration database (CMDB).
  • Monitor infrastructure capacity and optimize system performance through tuning and proactive planning.
Process & Project Support
  • Design and implement IT service management processes aligned with corporate security standards.
  • Support infrastructure enhancement initiatives and provide system support for projects.
Documentation
  • Maintain up-to-date technical, operational, and process documentation.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in system administration with strong expertise in Unix/Linux (Solaris, Red Hat, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with SAN storage for Unix/Linux platforms.
  • Skilled in OS hardening, patching, and enterprise backup solutions.
  • Experience with monitoring and management tools for large-scale environments.
  • Proficient in scripting (Shell, Perl, or Python) for automation and system tasks.
  • Familiarity with database administration and data center operations (advantageous).
  • Ability to provide 24/7 on-call support on a rostered basis and after-hours support for critical changes.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams and levels.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proactive, customer-focused, and resilient in fast-paced environments.
  • Relevant certifications: Unix/Linux System Administrator (required); Cloud administration certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP) (preferred).
