The Opportunity

The Senior Project Manager position is a part of the Global IT Department, which is directly overseen by the Group’s CIO. Our team currently comprises over 40 IT, software, and data professionals primarily based in Shanghai and Moerdijk (the Netherlands). With our IT presence in Singapore rapidly expanding, we are excited to invite you to join our team!

What You Will Work On

Our project managers own business applications and data projects end-to-end, working with our engineers, analysts, and business users across Gentco. As an example of the kind of work involved: we are currently building a decision-making hub for our tanker shipping division, bringing together data from our shipping systems, the internal and external data needed for commercial and operational decisions, and the algorithms and people that make those decisions. A project like this means gathering requirements from chartering and operations teams, working with our data engineers and analysts on what to build, and driving delivery through to adoption.

This is a hands-on role first: you run your own projects, and we expect you to keep doing so. On top of that, you will help overhaul how we run projects globally: the principles, the templates, and the underlying tooling (Confluence, Linear) that our teams in Shanghai, Moerdijk, and Singapore work by. A project like the shipping decision hub is the natural proving ground for that approach.

Beyond that, this role leads our most difficult cross-company projects (CRM, our core operating platforms) that span all of Gentco rather than a single division and coaches the junior project managers and product owners on the team.

Job Responsibilities:

• Own projects end-to-end and hands-on: refine ideas into project proposals, plan and oversee execution, ensure quality and timeliness, and run retrospectives and documentation on completion.
• Lead our larger cross-company projects (CRM, core operating platforms) spanning multiple divisions, offices, and external vendors.
• Drive the overhaul of our global project management practices, including principles, templates, and underlying tooling (Confluence, Linear), and get teams in Shanghai, Moerdijk, and Singapore working by them.
• Coach junior project managers and product owners;set the standard for proposals, status reporting, retrospectives, anddocumentation.
• Understand users (internal and external), markets,and competition in depth; take ownership of specific business applications andresponsibility for the end result.
• Embody a quantitative approach to project andproduct management: design unbiased KPIs and metrics to justify projectoutcomes, and regularly survey or interview users for feedback.
• Promote a culture of organizational learning byfacilitating knowledge sharing and best practices in documentation.

Requirements:

• 6+ years as a project, product, or program manager,including delivery of multi-team software or data projects
• Track record of introducing or changing projectmanagement practices and tooling in an organization, not just working withinthem
• Hands-on with modern project management tooling (Linear, Jira, Confluence, or similar); still comfortable running a project yourself
• Strong desire and ability to learn our industry (tanker shipping and tank container logistics) and its operating/business models
• Comfortable communicating across technical and non-technical audiences, including senior management; able to translate business needs into clearly scoped requirements
• Professional fluency in English
• Professional fluency in Mandarin is an added advantage to effectively liaise with Chinese-speaking counterparts.
• Highly motivated, with a proactive approach to project ownership and accountability for outcomes and timelines

Desirable Qualities:

• Experience with B2B ERP/TMS/CRM implementations
• Previous work experience in maritime logistics or shipping
• Experience on data or analytics projects (working with data engineers and analysts, defining KPIs)
• Experience managing distributed teams across time zones and cultures
• High-level knowledge of modern software architectures and DevOps principles
