Job summary

Quess Selection & Services in Singapore is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to join our general insurance team. The role combines technical underwriting, portfolio oversight and product development to strengthen underwriting performance and support new insurance solutions.

You will work with distribution, product and internal stakeholders to enhance propositions while maintaining underwriting discipline and profitability.

Qualifications

• Relevant experience within General Insurance underwriting.
• Strong technical understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment and portfolio management.
• Experience within Personal Lines and/or Commercial Lines.
• Exposure to product development or product management within General Insurance would be advantageous.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret portfolio performance and underwriting data.
• Confident stakeholder management skills and the ability to provide technical guidance to both underwriting and distribution teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical underwriting guidance across Personal and Commercial Lines.
• Assess and provide recommendations on complex or non-standard underwriting cases.
• Monitor portfolio performance and identify emerging risks, trends and areas requiring corrective action.
• Support profitable portfolio growth through appropriate risk selection, pricing and underwriting discipline.
• Review underwriting guidelines, policy terms, coverage conditions and documentation to ensure they remain commercially relevant and technically sound.
• Monitor portfolio exposure and accumulation across key classes of business.
• Perform periodic reviews of underwriting quality and recommend improvements where required.
• Analyse underwriting and portfolio data to provide insights into business performance and risk trends.
• Keep abreast of market developments, competitor activity, product offerings and pricing movements within the Singapore general insurance market.
