Job summary

The Public Service Division (PSD) in Singapore invites applications for a Product Designer Intern to gain hands-on experience on real-world challenges. You will work with product designers, managers and engineers to improve internal HR systems and workflows.

Under senior design guidance, you will participate in end-to-end design processes from discovery through to delivery, with opportunities to explore AI-assisted prototyping and rapid ideation.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a university degree in Design or related field.
• Basic understanding of user-centered design and product design methods.
• Familiar with design/prototyping tools like Figma.

What The Role Is

The Public Service Division (PSD) aims to build a first-class Public Service for a successful and vibrant Singapore. We do this through public sector leadership development, capacity and capability building and the promotion of quality services at all levels of the Public Service. We are looking for outstanding candidates with the vision and passion to contribute to help shape Singapore.

How might we design better digital experiences for the people who keep Singapore's Public Service running?

Join the Digital Accelerator Unit (DAU), where you will work alongside product designers, product managers and engineers to improve internal HR systems and workflows used across the Public Service.

As a Product Designer Intern, you will gain hands-on experience working on real-world product challenges - from understanding users and uncovering problems, to framing opportunities, designing solutions and testing ideas.

You will be supported by senior designers throughout your internship and, where opportunities arise, experience the end-to-end product design process from discovery through to delivery.

What You Will Be Working On

Learning Areas

User Research & Discovery - Gain practical experience planning and supporting user interviews, usability testing and other research activities to understand users' needs, behaviours and pain points.

Problem Framing & Product Thinking - Learn how to make sense of research, identify patterns and turn real-world problems into clear opportunities for design and product improvement.

Product & Experience Design - Develop your skills in creating user journeys, flows, wireframes and prototypes, and see how ideas evolve from early concepts into working digital products.

AI & Rapid Prototyping - Explore how AI can support research, ideation and design, and experiment with AI-assisted tools to rapidly turn ideas into prototypes that can be tested with users.

Workflow & Service Improvement - Learn to look beyond the interface and understand how design and technology can improve workflows, processes and the way work gets done.

Collaboration & Communication - Work alongside designers, product managers, engineers, stakeholders and public officers, and learn how to communicate your thinking and design decisions clearly.

Key Competencies Required

• Be currently pursuing a university degree in Design, Interaction Design, User Experience, Human-Computer Interaction or a related field.
• Have a basic understanding of user-centered design and product design methods, gained through school, project or practical experience.
• Be familiar with Figma or similar design and prototyping tools.
• Be curious about people and comfortable speaking with users to understand their needs and experiences.
• Have good problem-solving and analytical skills, with an interest in making sense of ambiguous problems.
• Be able to communicate ideas and design thinking clearly and work collaboratively with others.
• Be curious about AI and emerging technologies, and willing to experiment with new tools and ways of designing and building.
• Experience with AI-assisted prototyping, vibe coding, HTML/CSS/JavaScript or other development tools is a bonus, but not required.
