Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Patching Operations Process Specialist to manage and coordinate end-to-end accelerated and urgent patching operations across enterprise infrastructure environments.
The role will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the operating rhythm for weekly accelerated patch cycles and urgent 3-day patching activities. This includes readiness planning, cross-functional coordination, change governance, escalation management, deployment tracking, validation, evidence closure and transition to BAU.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in infrastructure operations, server patching, change management and technology process governance, along with working knowledge of Windows, Linux/Unix, middleware platforms and enterprise production environments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patching Operations & Cycle Management
- Own the day-to-day operating process for weekly accelerated patching and urgent 3-day patching cycles.
- Coordinate assigned patch cycles from scope confirmation through testing, deployment, live verification, reconciliation and closure.
- Maintain end-to-end cycle plans covering milestones, dependencies, owners, deadlines and escalation points.
- Track patch scope, deployment status, failed patches, rollback actions, exclusions, deferments and pending validations.
- Ensure patching activities are executed within defined operational timelines and control requirements.
2. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate patch readiness and execution across GIS, HCL, Open Systems, Middleware, SBE, Network, Application Custodians, TCOE, Service Recovery and Change Management teams.
- Drive timely completion of cross-team dependencies, approvals and readiness activities.
- Maintain clear ownership through RACI, action trackers, decision logs and escalation mechanisms.
- Facilitate coordination between infrastructure, middleware and application teams during production patching activities.
3. Change & Risk Governance
- Track and govern CRQ readiness, approved VRAs, deferments, exclusions, exceptions and rollback plans.
- Ensure all required approvals and change controls are completed before patch execution.
- Monitor risks, blockers and dependencies and **escalate** issues to appropriate decision owners.
- Support post-patch reconciliation and ensure all required validation and closure evidence is captured.
4. 24x7 Operational Readiness
- Support rostered overnight, weekend and public-holiday patching windows as required.
- Coordinate bridge calls during critical patching activities and ensure effective communication between technical and business stakeholders.
- Ensure appropriate handovers to accountable decision owners and support teams.
- Maintain duty coverage, escalation paths, cut-off times and exception routes for weekly and urgent patching lanes.
5. Process, SOP & Governance
- Define, document and continuously improve SOPs, process workflows, control gates and escalation paths for patching operations.
- Establish clear readiness criteria and cut-off points for patch execution.
- Maintain RACI matrices, action logs, decision logs, risk registers and operational trackers.
- Conduct process walkthroughs, readiness reviews and dress rehearsals before major or new patching cycles.
- Support transition of new processes and operational controls into BAU operations.
6. Closure, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Compile patch-cycle closure records and ensure all required evidence is available for audit and operational governance.
- Support preparation of SLA, KORI and KRCSA evidence and reporting.
- Identify recurring operational, process, ownership and coordination gaps.
- Work with Tooling, Data & Automation teams to translate identified process gaps into automation or tooling requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in patching readiness, execution, handovers, validation and closure processes.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
- 6+ years of relevant experience in infrastructure operations, patch management, change coordination, service delivery or technology process governance.
- Strong experience coordinating enterprise infrastructure patching or production change activities.
- Hands-on or strong working knowledge of Open Systems environments, including:
- Windows Server
- Linux/Unix
- Server patching principles and practices
- Working knowledge of middleware administration and patching, such as:
- Oracle WebLogic
- IBM WebSphere
- JBoss / WildFly
- Apache HTTPD
- Apache Tomcat
- or equivalent middleware platforms
- Experience coordinating production changes across infrastructure, middleware and application teams.
- Good understanding of CRQ/change management, VRA/exception handling, rollback procedures and post-patch validation.
- Experience working in structured ITIL/service-management or enterprise operations environments.
- Strong documentation, stakeholder management, follow-up, issue triage and escalation skills.
- Willingness to support overnight, weekend and public-holiday patching windows based on operational requirements.
