Job Description – Primary School Teachers for English, Mathematics and Science

Singapore International School Dili (SIS) Timor Leste

Position Overview

Singapore International School Dili (SIS) is a newly established elementary international school in Timor Leste’s capital of Dili. That being said, SIS seeks a founding team of experienced and enthusiastic Singapore teachers to relocate and work closely with the school leadership team to start up and build the elementary programme for up to 80 students in the first year of operations.

The management team is in close discussions with Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) and is poised to become the first official International Primary School Leaving Examination (iPSLE) test center in East Timor, pending a final audit. Following this development, the school’s curriculum is based on the Singapore syllabus and all students are expected to sit for the iPSLE at the end of Primary 6.

Being a Primary English, Math or Science teacher at SIS would involve fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. The academic team will be responsible for designing engaging lesson plans that align with the Singapore curriculum, incorporating innovative teaching methods to make the subjects exciting for young learners. Assessing students' progress, providing constructive feedback, and collaboration with other teachers and staff would also be essential components of the role.

Cultural sensitivity and adaptability are crucial, given the international setting and the diverse background of the students. Having said that, patience, creativity, and a genuine passion for education would certainly be valuable traits in this role.

Key Responsibilities
1. Curriculum Planning and Development
  • Develop day to day lesson plans in accordance with the school's Singapore based curriculum.
2. Instruction and Delivery
  • Deliver engaging and interactive lessons that cater to the diverse learning styles and cultural background of international students.
3. Assessment and Evaluation
  • Design and administer assessments to evaluate student understanding and progress.
  • Provide constructive feedback on assignments and exams to help students improve their performance.
4. Classroom Management
  • Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively, promoting a respectful and cooperative atmosphere.
5. Communication
  • Regularly communicate with parents regarding students' progress and any concerns.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and coordinate interdisciplinary activities.
6. Cultural Sensitivity
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness, considering the diverse backgrounds of students in an international school.
7. Extra-Curricular Involvement
  • Oversee extracurricular activities related to the subject, such as clubs, competitions, or projects.

Reporting Accountability: The subject teacher reports directly to the principal of SIS Dili.
