Job summary

IFCHOR GALBRAITHS (IG) in Singapore is seeking a Junior Geared Broker to join the Dry Cargo Division. You will support day-to-day broking activity, monitor vessel positions, cargo requirements and freight market developments while building relationships with shipowners and charterers.

Working alongside experienced brokers, you will progressively develop your understanding of Geared trading patterns, major dry bulk commodities and international trade flows, gaining commercial judgement and market

Qualifications

• At least 12 months' professional experience in shipping or related field.

About the Role

We are looking for a Junior Geared Broker to join our Dry Cargo Division in Singapore.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious, commercially minded individual to develop a career within an established Geared broking desk, gaining practical experience in global dry bulk markets, chartering and commercial negotiations.

Working alongside experienced brokers, you will support day-to-day broking activity, monitor vessel positions and cargo requirements, follow freight market developments and build relationships with shipowners, charterers, operators and other market participants.

You will progressively develop your understanding of Geared trading patterns, major dry bulk commodities and international trade flows, while building the commercial judgement, negotiation skills and market knowledge needed to take greater responsibility for business and client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Geared desk across daily chartering enquiries, negotiations and broking activity.
• Monitor vessel positions, cargo requirements, freight rates and relevant market developments.
• Develop knowledge of Geared vessels, major dry bulk commodities, international trade routes and freight market dynamics.
• Identify opportunities to match cargo requirements with suitable vessel availability.
• Communicate with shipowners, charterers, operators and other market participants to gather market information and develop commercial relationships.
• Assist with commercial negotiations and the progression of business from initial enquiry through to fixture.
• Use market platforms, data and analytical tools to identify opportunities and support market intelligence.
• Collaborate with colleagues across IG's international offices and broking network.
• Develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients.
• Progressively take greater responsibility for commercial opportunities, negotiations and client relationships as experience develops.

Requirements

Essential

• A minimum of 12 months' professional experience in shipping, shipbroking, chartering, dry bulk,commodities, logistics, trading or a related commercial role.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective professional relationships.
• A genuine interest in shipping, commodities, international trade and global markets.
• Commercial awareness, initiative and a willingness to learn.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
• The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, competitive and collaborative environment.
• Professional integrity, resilience and accountability.

Qualifications and Additional Experience

• A degree or relevant qualification in shipping, maritime studies, logistics, business, economics, finance, international trade or a related discipline is preferred.
• Previous direct Geared broking experience is advantageous but not essential.
