Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in maritime studies, shipping, business, logistics or related discipline.
• Proven experience in shipbroking, chartering, commercial shipping or vessel operations.
• Strong understanding of the shipping and chartering market.
• Established network with shipowners, charterers, operators and/or cargo interests is advantageous.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with shipowners, charterers, operators and other key industry stakeholders.
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the relevant shipping market.
• Act as intermediary between shipowners and charterers through the chartering process.
• Source suitable vessels and cargo opportunities based on client requirements.
• Negotiate freight rates, charter party terms, laycan, demurrage, commissions and other terms.
• Monitor market movements, freight rates, vessel positions, cargo availability, industry developments.
• Prepare and circulate market information, vessel positions, cargo orders and updates.
• Coordinate negotiations to achieve mutually acceptable chartering terms.
• Support preparation, negotiation and execution of charter party agreements.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Ship Broker to join a dynamic shipping team. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and developing business opportunities, negotiating chartering terms, and facilitating transactions between shipowners and charterers.

This role is suited to a commercially minded shipping professional with strong market knowledge, negotiation skills, and an established network within the maritime industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with shipowners, charterers, operators, and other key industry stakeholders.
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the relevant shipping market.
• Act as an intermediary between shipowners and charterers throughout the chartering process.
• Source suitable vessels and cargo opportunities based on client requirements.
• Negotiate freight rates, charter party terms, laycan, demurrage, commissions, and other commercial terms.
• Monitor market movements, freight rates, vessel positions, cargo availability, and industry developments.
• Prepare and circulate market information, vessel positions, cargo orders, and relevant commercial updates.
• Coordinate negotiations between counterparties and work towards mutually acceptable chartering terms.
• Support the preparation, negotiation, and execution of charter party agreements and related documentation.
• Follow up on fixtures and ensure smooth communication between all parties through to completion.
• Develop and maintain a strong database of vessel owners, charterers, cargo interests, and market contacts.
• Provide clients and internal stakeholders with timely updates on market conditions and commercial opportunities.
• Maintain accurate records of negotiations, fixtures, commissions, and client activities.
• Ensure all transactions are conducted in accordance with company procedures, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations.

Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Business, Logistics, or a related discipline.
• Relevant experience in shipbroking, chartering, commercial shipping, or vessel operations.
• Strong understanding of the shipping and chartering market.
• Established network of contacts among shipowners, charterers, operators, and/or cargo interests would be advantageous.
• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify and convert business opportunities.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and commercially driven environment.
• Strong analytical and market research skills.
• Good understanding of charter party terms and shipping documentation.
