Job description
What the role is:

As a Data Scientist (Risk Sensemaking Analytics) in HTX, you will develop a suite of in‑house AI models to augment the cognitive workload of Home Team officers, and collaborate with stakeholders to develop data science & AI models to solve MHA’s operational challenges and support new transformative capabilities. You will implement and deploy solutions that best meet users’ requirements, accounting for technological suitability and factors of operational needs and alignment to organisational‑level plans and roadmaps.

What you will be working on:
  • Work in a data science team with other stakeholders to identify, scope, develop and implement data science and AI solutions to address users’ needs.
  • Design and implement workflows for data pre‑processing and feature engineering, develop machine learning models, and evaluate techniques and algorithms.
  • Conduct evaluation of analytical output (e.g., model) and regular review of productionised models; refresh/ retire models.
  • Prepare and present analytical insights that effectively describe complex quantitative methods in clear and concise communications to business users and stakeholders.
  • Conduct strategic planning and develop data science & AI capabilities for MHA. Work with relevant units to drive the adoption of data science & AI in MHA officers’ daily work. Advise business users on how a data science approach can be applied to resolve strategic and operational challenges.
  • Keep abreast of latest technological advances in data science and AI techniques.
What we are looking for:
  • Degree in a quantitative discipline that involves Data Science/Analytics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics &/or Scientific Computing or relevant disciplines.
  • Strong understanding in one or more of the following areas:
    • Artificial intelligence algorithms
    • Machine learning and deep learning
    • Data mining and knowledge discovery
    • Statistical forecasting methods
    • Link analysis
    • Natural language processing
  • Proficient in ML/AI scripting languages (Python, R), data query languages such as SQL.
  • Candidate with knowledge or experience on Dev Ops / ML Ops will have an added advantage.
  • At least 2 years of working experience in AI/ML.

  • Quick learner with the ability to implement new technologies.

All new hires are appointed on a two‑year contract in the first instance and will be assessed and considered for permanent tenure over time, based on performance.
