Job summary

Evonik Methionine SEA Pte Ltd in Singapore is seeking an experienced R&D chemist to execute coating-related projects, collaborate across departments and contribute to new or improved functional coatings for various applications.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry/polymer/materials and hands-on lab work, with strong data analysis and project execution skills. You will plan experiments, supervise interns, and document results using Excel/ELN tools.

Qualifications

• BSc in Chemistry/Polymer/Materials with 3+ years coatings experience.
• Plan and conduct experiments independently, organize data and analyze results.
• Strong project execution and basic project management skills.
• Proficient in coating formulation, application, testing, analysis and characterization.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-driven, proactive, and able to work under uncertainty.

Responsibilities

• Execute R&D projects in coatings for various applications.
• Collaborate with the team and other departments to build up different research projects.
• Independently, and within the team, contribute to innovate, develop, formulate and design new or improved functional coating for various applications according to business needs.
• Carry out all necessary lab research activities within the timeline of the projects and with good quality outcome.
• Manage and organize specific/dedicated lab room to ensure EHSQ & work efficiency.
• Plan experiments and activities based on established projects as well as new, exploratory ideas.
• Conduct basic literature and patent searches associated with assigned projects.
• Formulate, apply and characterize material for functional coating experiments.
• Document results and prepare technical reports using tools such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Electronic Lab Notebook, with the assistance of AI tools where appropriate.
• Develop new or revise test methods, processes or procedures to support program or project goals.
• Liaise with external and internal partners as appropriate.
• Supervise interns and plan their work to advance the progress of assigned projects.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science or related subjects with minimum 3 years working experience in coatings-related area; specifically with projects/work experience related to coating formulation, application and testing.
• Ability to plan and work independently in conducting experiments, organizing data and analysis of the results.
• Basic project management and strong project execution skills.
• Strong laboratory technical skills, in particular coating formulation, application, testing, analysis and characterization.
• Creative and enjoys exploring new technologies.
• Positive ‘can do’ attitude.
• Self-driving & self-motivating, fast learner.
• Comfortable to deal with high uncertainty & ambiguity. Not afraid to take a risk & willing to learn from failure.
