Position Summary
The Audio and Video Equipment Technician is responsible for installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting audio, video, and multimedia systems. This role ensures that all technical equipment functions smoothly for meetings, events, productions, and day-to-day operations. The technician provides hands‑on support, technical expertise, and high-quality customer service to internal and external clients.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Setup
- Install, configure, and test audio and video (A/V) equipment, including microphones, speakers, projectors, displays, mixers, cameras, and control systems.
- Set up equipment for meetings, presentations, live events, broadcasts, and recordings.
- Ensure proper cabling, signal routing, and system functionality prior to events.
Operation & Support
- Operate A/V systems during live events, ensuring seamless audio and video performance.
- Provide real‑time troubleshooting and technical support to prevent or resolve issues.
- Assist users with connecting devices, launching videoconferences, and using A/V tools effectively.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on A/V equipment.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions and coordinate with vendors for repairs when necessary.
- Keep inventory of equipment and maintain organized storage and check‑out systems.
Documentation & Administration
- Maintain detailed records of equipment usage, maintenance, and installations.
- Update system configurations, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Recommend equipment upgrades and improvements based on evolving needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in audio engineering, electronics, media production, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience installing, operating, and troubleshooting A/V equipment.
- Working knowledge of audio mixers, digital consoles, projectors, switching systems, video conferencing platforms, and signal flow.
- Familiarity with control systems (e.g., Crestron, Extron, AMX) is a plus.
- Ability to lift and move equipment (typically up to 50 lbs).
- Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer‑service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in corporate A/V support, live event production, broadcasting, or educational technology.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals related to A/V systems (AV‑over‑IP, Dante, NDI).
- Certification such as CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) is highly desirable.
Work Environment
- Mix of office, event, and field settings.
- Occasional evenings, weekends, or overtime based on event schedules.
- Fast‑paced environment requiring quick troubleshooting and flexibility.
