Assistant Sales Manager — Roles & Responsibilities
Role Summary
Responsible for supporting the Sales Manager in driving revenue, managing key accounts, coordinating between sales and service teams, and supervising sales staff. The Assistant Sales Manager helps convert leads, maintain customer relationships, prepare commercial proposals, and ensure sales targets and service commitments are met.
Core Responsibilities
- Sales Execution: Support the Sales Manager in achieving monthly and annual sales targets; follow up on leads, prepare quotations, and close deals.
- Account Management: Maintain relationships with key customers; act as primary contact for assigned accounts; ensure contract terms and SLAs are met.
- Sales Planning & Reporting: Assist in sales forecasting, pipeline management, and preparing weekly/monthly sales reports and dashboards.
- Proposal & Contract Support: Draft and review commercial proposals, service agreements, and renewal documents; coordinate internal approvals.
- Cross‑Functional Coordination: Work closely with Service, Operations, and Finance to ensure smooth handover of projects, timely invoicing, and fulfilment of service obligations.
- Pricing & Negotiation: Support pricing strategy, discount approvals, and commercial negotiations within delegated authority.
- Customer Visits & Presentations: Conduct site visits, product demonstrations, and technical briefings with customers and prospects.
- Sales Team Supervision: Coach and mentor junior sales staff; assign leads, monitor performance, and ensure accurate CRM updates.
- Market Intelligence: Gather competitor and market information; identify upsell/cross‑sell opportunities and feed insights into product and pricing decisions.
- Customer Experience: Ensure high customer satisfaction by resolving escalations, coordinating rapid responses, and following up on service outcomes.
People Management & Leadership
- Team Development: Train and develop sales executives on product knowledge, sales techniques, and CRM usage.
- Performance Management: Set clear KPIs, conduct regular reviews, and implement corrective actions to improve team performance.
- Culture & Conduct: Promote professional conduct, punctuality, and accurate documentation to minimise human errors.
SOPs, Contracts & Compliance
- SOP Enforcement: Ensure sales and handover processes follow documented SOPs; identify gaps and propose improvements.
- Contract Renewals: Lead annual contract renewal process for assigned accounts; prepare renewal proposals and negotiate terms.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of quotations, contracts, approvals, and customer communications.
- Risk & Compliance: Ensure all commercial activities comply with company policy, legal requirements, and industry standards.
KPI & Success Metrics
- Revenue attainment (monthly / quarterly / annual)
- Pipeline conversion rate and average deal size
- Contract renewal rate and churn reduction
- Customer satisfaction score (CSAT) or Net Promoter Score (NPS) for managed accounts
- Average response time for customer enquiries and escalations
- Accuracy of CRM records and reduction in documentation errors
- Team performance metrics (quota attainment, lead follow‑up rate)
Required Skills & Experience
- Commercial acumen: Strong pricing, negotiation, and contract management skills.
- Leadership: Ability to coach, motivate, and hold a small sales team accountable for results.
- Analytical: Comfortable with CRM analytics and sales forecasting.
- Execution: Strong bias for action; closes deals and removes blockers.
- Collaboration: Works seamlessly with Service, Operations, and Finance to protect margins.
- Tools: Proficient with CRM (e.g., Salesforce), MS Excel, and reporting dashboards.
- Experience: 3–6 years in B2B sales or service sales; prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Communication: Clear written and verbal communication; confident presenter.
- Coordination: Proven ability to work cross‑functionally with operations and service teams.
- Leadership: Coaching, performance management, and conflict resolution skills.
- Organisational: Strong planning, time management, and attention to detail.
- Technical aptitude: Comfortable with product specifications, basic technical drawings, or service workflows.
- Tools: Proficient with CRM systems, MS Office, and basic reporting tools.
