We are currently looking for a Lead Body Structure Engineer to support an advanced prototype vehicle development program, taking ownership of body structure design, engineering coordination, supplier management, and build execution activities.
About the Assignment
This role focuses on leading the development and launch of front and rear lower body structures for a vehicle prototype program. You will play a key role in transforming engineering concepts into physical vehicles by coordinating design, sourcing, manufacturing, and build activities.
The assignment requires a combination of technical expertise, project leadership, cross‑functional collaboration, and hands‑on support throughout the complete development and build process.
Main Responsibilities
As a Lead Body Structure Engineer, you will:
- Lead the design, development, and release of body structure components required for prototype vehicle builds.
- Coordinate project content, engineering deliverables, and timeline planning with stakeholders.
- Identify and manage BOM content, including new parts, carry‑over components, and bridging solutions.
- Establish sourcing plans and manage supplier activities throughout the project.
- Lead engineering meetings with designers, suppliers, manufacturing teams, and program stakeholders.
- Identify technical risks, define mitigation plans, and drive engineering solutions.
- Secure engineering data within relevant product development systems and databases.
- Participate in mechanical integration activities and technical reviews.
- Ensure project milestones, quality objectives, and engineering deliverables are achieved.
In addition to engineering development activities, you will:
- Create and manage engineering interfaces between systems and stakeholders.
- Develop complete body build instructions, including welding and joining requirements.
- Define and coordinate assembly sequences together with manufacturing teams.
- Support engineering decisions for body rebuild and modification activities.
- Participate in project reviews, build meetings, and integration activities.
- Maintain and update BOM structures throughout the program.
- Create experiment numbers and work orders where required.
- Provide on‑site support during prototype vehicle build activities.
- Perform process feasibility assessments.
- Capture, document, and communicate lessons learned throughout the program lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Product Development, or a related field.
- Strong experience in Body-in-White (BIW) or body structure development.
- Experience leading complex engineering projects and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
- Knowledge of vehicle build processes, mechanical integration, and prototype development.
- Experience managing suppliers and sourcing‑related activities.
- Strong understanding of BOM management and engineering release processes.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Meritorious Qualifications
- Experience supporting prototype or mule vehicle builds.
- Background in manufacturing engineering or industrialization.
- Knowledge of joining technologies and assembly methods.
- Experience with CAD and PLM systems.
- Familiarity with vehicle integration and development processes.
