Job summary

Tata Technologies in Sweden is seeking a Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and release of front and rear lower body structures for a vehicle mule program. You will drive engineering content, coordinate with suppliers and cross-functional teams, and ensure design feasibility and documentation throughout the project life cycle.

The role requires strong CAD and PLM experience, a track record of leading complex engineering activities, and fluent English communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and release of body structure components and assemblies.
• Drive the development of front and rear lower body structures for prototype vehicle builds.
• Coordinate engineering deliverables, content planning, and project timelines with key stakeholders.
• Identify BOM requirements, carry-over content, bridging parts, and new component needs.
• Establish sourcing plans and coordinate supplier activities.
• Lead engineering meetings involving suppliers, manufacturing teams, integration teams, and design stakeholders.
• Identify project risks and define mitigation plans to ensure successful delivery.
• Secure and maintain engineering data within relevant product development systems.
• Support mechanical integration activities and attribute-driven development.
• Participate in technical reviews, program meetings, and engineering decision-making forums.
• Develop structural body components and subsystems.
• Create interface sections and packaging studies.
• Design and release CAD models for prototype body parts.
• Support drawing creation and technical documentation when required.
• Ensure correct material selections and surface treatment specifications within CAD models.
• Support engineering releases and product maturity activities throughout the project lifecycle.

We are currently looking for a Design Engineer – Body Structure Development to support an exciting vehicle development program focused on body structure design, engineering integration, and prototype vehicle builds.

About the Assignment

As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for driving the design, development, and implementation of front and rear lower body structures for a vehicle mule program. You will lead engineering activities from concept maturity through physical build phases, ensuring technical requirements, manufacturing feasibility, timing, quality, and cost targets are achieved.

This role combines technical leadership, body design engineering, supplier management, sourcing coordination, and cross-functional collaboration in a dynamic product development environment.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and release of body structure components and assemblies.

Required Qualifications

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Product Development, or related field.
• Extensive experience in automotive body design and product development.
• Strong understanding of vehicle structure development and mechanical integration.
• Experience leading complex engineering activities across multiple stakeholders.
• Strong CAD design experience and familiarity with PLM environments.
• Experience managing technical suppliers and sourcing-related activities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Meritorious Qualifications

• Experience with prototype vehicle development and mule build programs.
• Experience within Body-in-White (BIW) development.
• Knowledge of vehicle integration processes and engineering release management.
• Experience working with manufacturing engineering and purchasing organizations.
• Familiarity with automotive development systems and product data management tools.
