Tool Room Engineer

Position Overview

This role is based in Saudi Arabia and reports to the Production Manager. The Tool Room Engineer will ensure that all tools and maintenance activities are carried out efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with quality and safety standards. Responsibilities include supervising, training, and motivating production staff, maintaining accurate production records, and providing regular performance reports to management. Key Responsibilities
  • Tool Design & Development – Design and develop tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and dies using CAD/CAM software based on production needs.
  • Maintenance & Repair – Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure tool performance and longevity.
  • Inspection & Clean‑Up – Schedule periodic inspections, clean tools after each use, check for wear and deformation, lubricate moving parts, and maintain proper storage to prevent rust.
  • Lifecycle Management – Track tool life cycles and usage hours, implement sensors or counters on high‑use tools, and analyze performance data for early warning signs.
  • Root‑Cause Analysis & Rework – Investigate failures, repair or regrind damaged tools promptly, and document all repairs and replacements for future reference.
  • Documentation – Maintain tool maintenance logs, update drawings and change records, track inventory, and keep separate life‑cycle analysis records.
  • Process Optimization – Suggest improvements in tool design or material selection to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
  • Collaboration – Work closely with production, quality, and design teams to ensure tools meet specifications.
  • Inventory Control – Monitor tool room inventory, maintain spare parts, and ensure essential components are available.
  • Continuous Improvement – Review failure trends, implement design or process improvements, incorporate lean practices like 5S and TPM, and encourage operator feedback.
  • Compliance & Safety – Ensure adherence to company safety policies and quality management systems (ISO, TS, etc.).
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5‑7 years of experience in a manufacturing or tool room environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MasterCAM).
  • Knowledge of machining operations (CNC, EDM, milling, grinding, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of tooling materials, heat treatment, and tolerances.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and 5S practices.
Soft Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Good communication and team collaboration.
  • Attention to detail and quality mindset.
  • Time management and multitasking skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or overtime when required.
  • Knowledge of lean techniques may be advantageous.
