Job summary

Hatch is seeking a Senior Underground Mining Engineer based in Riyadh to lead mining design, studies and execution across the region. You will work with cross‑functional teams, supporting business development and technical delivery for challenging underground operations.

Ideal candidates bring extensive underground hard rock mining experience, strong leadership, and the ability to travel to sites domestically and internationally, delivering safe, efficient and compliant solutions.

Qualifications

• B.Eng. Mining or equivalent tertiary education.
• Extensive mine site experience in production, planning and projects.
• Significant underground hard rock mining experience.
• Understanding of financial modelling principles and business acumen.
• Strong report writing and proposal skills.
• Leadership, relationship building and negotiation abilities.
• Proficiency in mine planning software and related tools.
• Chartered/Professional Engineer status advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead and/or manage nominated projects.
• Travel domestically and internationally to site locations.
• Provide specialist advisory support for mining operations and studies.
• Undertake underground and/or open pit mining studies with proper methodologies.
• Develop designs, schedules, cost estimates and economic evaluations.
• Mentor teams and ensure high-quality technical outputs.

Hatch is currently seeking applications fromexperienced SME underground Gold Execution and Management Mining Engineerswho can build and contribute to the mining engineering capability across the KSA region. Based in Riyadh, KSA, the successful candidate will be responsible for both business development and providing technical support on projects of varying stages and operations throughout the region. Reporting into the Saudi based Mining Lead.

A core part of this role will be to develop a multicultural network across the region - building relationships with key clients externally and internal networks within Hatch globally to deliver “best value” outcomes for clients.

To do this effectively you will need to both be willing and able to travel to various work sites throughout the region as the role requires.

Core Functional Tasks & Key Responsibilities of this role will include:

• Gold mine construction, underground development and execution, sub-contractor management.
• Excellent safety awareness and experience working to industry standards.
• Relevant engineering degree or formal qualifications pertaining to the role.
• Experience working as part of or managing integrated teams.
• Demonstrated experience working in the Underground Mining Industry.
• Understand and effectively manage customer’s needs; with the ability to develop sustainable, open and honest relationships with Clients and colleagues alike.
• Proficient oral and written communication skills.
• Team leadership skills and willingness to effectively collaborate with others.
• Ability to negotiate and influence others to achieve best for project / business outcomes.
• Demonstrated experience in the use of MS Office software suite.
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally for business.
• Providing specialist advisory support to clients and project teams working on mining operations and projects.
• Undertaking underground and/or open pit mining studies, including first principle mining engineering, benchmarking, mine designs, schedules, cost estimates and economic evaluations.
• Ensuring that the methodology and tools used to undertake mining studies are appropriate to attain the level of accuracy to meet the client requirements at minimum cost.
• Maintaining and improving technical skills in mining engineering to improve the quality of technical solutions and reduce cost and improved client acceptance.
• Identifying developments in the “mining practice” and analysis techniques which offer opportunity for improved efficiency and business development.
• Undertaking technical and peer reviews to ensure quality outcomes.
• Taking on the lead and/or project manager role for nominated projects.

Key required skills, experience and attributes:

• B.Eng. Mining or equivalent tertiary education from a recognized institution.
• Extensive mine site experience, covering both production, planning and project environments.
• Significant experience in underground hard rock mining environment.
• Understanding of financial modelling principles and general business acumen.
• Effective and open communication style including the ability to plan and deliver high quality reports, proposals and bids.
• Demonstrated leadership, relationship building and negotiation skills.
• Proficiency in mine planning software, e.g., (e.g. Deswik, Studio 5D, Mine2-4D, Xpac, Surpac, Datamine or Whittle).
• A Mine manager's Certificate of Competency is considered advantageous.
• Registration as a Chartered / Professional Engineer (or progress towards registered) is considered advantageous.

Sunday to Thursday 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM.
