Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Buildings team in Riyadh. You will contribute to the design and delivery of high-quality mechanical building services from concept to construction support, collaborating with project managers, clients, and specialists.

You will mentor graduate and junior engineers while delivering multidisciplinary projects across public and private sectors, ensuring compliance with local regulations and energy-efficient design practices.

Qualifications

• Saudi Council of Engineers membership is required.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
• Proven experience in mechanical building services design.
• Experience on building and infrastructure projects in consultancy or design.
• Knowledge of current building regulations, standards and best practice.
• Proficiency in mechanical engineering software and design tools.
• BIM knowledge and experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare mechanical building services designs, calculations, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
• Assist in delivering projects from concept through to construction stages.
• Undertake mechanical services surveys and assessments of existing buildings and infrastructure.
• Produce and review mechanical design drawings and engineering calculations.
• Contribute to sustainable and energy-efficient design solutions.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and other building services disciplines.
• Support project planning and delivery within agreed programmes and budgets.
• Attend client, design team, and stakeholder meetings as required.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations, and project requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate and junior engineers.
• Assist senior engineers and project managers in delivering successful project outcomes.

About the role

We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Buildings team in Riyadh. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects across the public and private sectors, including commercial, hospitality, education, healthcare, residential, sports, and infrastructure developments. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the design and delivery of high-quality mechanical building services solutions from concept through to detailed design and construction support. You will work closely with project managers, clients, and technical specialists while helping to develop early-career engineers. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer looking to further develop their technical expertise and project delivery skills within a leading global consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:

• Prepare mechanical building services designs, calculations, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.

Candidate Specification

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate strong technical capability within mechanical building services engineering together with a collaborative and proactive approach to project delivery.

Essential

• Member of the Saudi Council of Engineers.
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent.
• Proven experience in mechanical building services design within the built environment sector.
• Experience working on building and infrastructure projects within a consultancy or design environment.
• Knowledge of current building regulations, standards, and industry best practice.
• Proficiency in industry-recognised mechanical engineering software and design tools.
• BIM knowledge and experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Desirable

• Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration through CIBSE or IMechE.
• Experience across commercial, hospitality, healthcare, education, residential, sports, or mixed-use developments.
• Knowledge of LEED, WELL, or sustainable building design principles.
• Experience supporting junior engineers and graduates.
• Experience working on major building projects and multidisciplinary design teams.
• Familiarity with local Saudi Arabian regulations and design standards.
