The role covers technical specification development, interface design with protection and control, bid evaluation, construction supervision, and commissioning. Travel to sites and client offices internationally is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 7 years in design/construction of HV OHTL or related projects.
• Excellent academic and professional record.

• Client-focused, autonomous, and able to work under pressure.
• Knowledge of IEC, IEEE and CSA standards for electrical equipment and installations.

Responsibilities

• Develop technical specifications for procurement.
• Design HV substations: single line diagrams, layouts, BOM.
• Coordinate with protection, control, civil, and structural interfaces.
• Prepare bid documents and evaluate bids.
• Review detail designs by OEM/third parties.
• Ensure interdisciplinary coordination and audits.
• Oversee construction supervision, installation procedures, and method statements.
• Supervise commissioning and factory testing.
• Perform feasibility studies and power system calculations (load flow, short-circuit, grounding).

Job Description Overview SNC-Lavalin has an exciting full-time career opportunity for a Civil/Structural Engineer of 07 years’ experience to build a career in the area of Power Systems, Transmission and Distribution. The role is based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The candidate will work in a fast-paced consulting environment with excellent career growth opportunities.

Your role

• Development of technical specifications for the procurement.
• Development of conceptual and detail design of HV substations (single line diagrams, layouts, BOM, etc.).
• Design of interfaces with protection and control systems, civil works, structures.
• Preparation of bid documents and bid evaluations.
• Design review of detail design performed by O.E.M. and third-party detail design.
• Ensure interdisciplinary coordination.
• Audits and technical assessment of HV and MV substations.
• Construction supervision; development of installation procedures and method statements.
• Commissioning supervision.
• Witnessing factory testing.
• Feasibility and techno-economic studies (substations, distribution systems, etc.).
• Design studies and calculations (load flow, short-circuit, grounding, lightning protection, lighting, busbar design, etc.).

About you

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, from a recognized institution (Master’s degree in power systems, an asset).
• Minimum 07 years of relevant experience in Engineering, Design and Construction of Extra High Voltage OHTL or related projects.
• Exceptional academic and professional record.
• Exceptional problem-solving and analytical capabilities with a focus achieving results.
• Team player with great interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
• Client focused, highly autonomous, and ability to work under pressure.
• Comprehensive understanding of power system fundamentals.
• Knowledge or experience in HVDC, FACTS, or HV Cables, an asset.
• Eligibility for registration with a Professional Order of Engineers.
• Knowledge of IEC, IEEE and CSA standards for electrical equipment and installations.
• Availability for short trips to construction sites, factories, client’s offices, in Canada, international and overseas.
• Fluency in English and French languages, both spoken and written.
• Additional languages will be considered an asset.
• Proficiency in the following (or similar) software tools, an asset: ETAP, CYMECAP, AUTOCAD.
