Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Traffic and Roads Engineer to lead traffic management and detour design on a major road project in the region. This role involves coordinating across design, construction supervision and client teams to ensure safe, efficient temporary and permanent traffic solutions.

Ideal candidates bring extensive experience in traffic engineering, modeling, and regulatory compliance, with a strong track record in multi-disciplinary infrastructure delivery and stakeholder management.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related discipline, with a minimum of 12 years of experience.
  • Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering or Traffic Engineering is preferred.
  • Professional membership with a recognized engineering institution is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review contractor proposals for compliance with project requirements, regulations and stakeholder specifications, and provide technical recommendations for traffic management, temporary diversions and road works, both temporary and permanent.
  • Evaluate traffic impact assessments, capacity analysis, and traffic modeling to evaluate diversion effectiveness.
  • Ensure traffic diversion plans consider safety, accessibility, emergency access, operational continuity and compatibility with the logistics requirements for delivering the project.
  • Analyze traffic volumes, travel patterns, intersection performance, and road network capacity to review diversion planning.
  • Ensure traffic management and diversion plans comply with national regulations, international standards, and traffic safety requirements.
  • Ensure proper implementation of safety measures for road users, pedestrians, and construction personnel.
  • Conduct technical reviews and ensure quality assurance throughout project execution.
  • Provide technical oversight during implementation of traffic diversions, ensuring compliance with approved plans and safety standards.
  • Identify risks, operational constraints, and potential conflicts, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate with clients, local authorities, traffic police, contractors, and stakeholders to obtain approvals for traffic diversion schemes.

Join us as a Traffic and Roads Engineer in our Transportation Project Delivery team and you will have the opportunity to contribute the delivery of an exciting multi‑disciplinary Transportation project. You will collaborate across all stages of the project lifecycle with the Preliminary Works, Design, Engineering and Construction supervision team and in close coordination with the D&B Contractor overseeing the traffic diversions and roads construction works with focus on delivery and special emphasis on safety. With such size, scope and scale, you'll have plenty of opportunities to keep yourself challenged and to grow your technical leadership skills.

  • Ensure traffic control devices, signage, markings, and temporary infrastructure are properly designed and implemented.
  • Provide technical oversight during implementation of traffic diversions, ensuring compliance with approved plans and safety standards.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to verify effectiveness and safety of traffic diversion measures.
  • Identify risks, operational constraints, and potential conflicts, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Support construction teams to ensure traffic diversions align with project schedules and phasing.
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, traffic police, contractors, and stakeholders to obtain approvals for traffic diversion schemes.
  • Participate in coordination meetings to ensure alignment of traffic management strategies with project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure that the PMCM Team, and specially the Construction Supervision Team are well informed of the traffic and road works, attend the toolbox talks and traffic safety briefs, and follow the safety rules and procedures while undertaking their duties.
  • Coordinate with the HSE Manager and Head of Construction for incorporating the traffic and road works within the reports.
  • Keep a proactive Safety aptitude and behaviour, and contribute in positive to the a culture of safety.
Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing traffic management and detour plans for complex construction projects.
  • Experience in traffic impact assessments, traffic analysis, and traffic modelling.
  • Strong knowledge of traffic control devices, road safety standards, and temporary traffic management.
  • Experience coordinating with contractors, consultants, and government authorities.
  • Excellent coordination and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Strong engineering judgement, communication and technical reporting skills.
  • High level of organisation and commitment to your work.
  • Good understanding of general engineering.
  • Good knowledge of inspection and testing techniques with regard to temporary and permanent road works.
  • Experience of carrying out method statements and risk assessments.
  • Excellent personal organisational skills and team work.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy when completing inspection and examination testing paperwork.
  • Used to work in a fast‑paced office environment combining construction supervision works and administration work.
  • Open to adapt to flexible working hours arrangements.
  • Experience working in the KSA or wider Middle East region is preferred.
