This role requires strong prime contract administration experience, advanced negotiation capability, commercial risk awareness, and the ability to represent the company in high-value contractual discussions for a major cliff stabilization and infrastructure project.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage commercial and contractual activities across multiple packages within a major cliff stabilization and infrastructure project.
- Represent the company in negotiations involving complex contractual issues, contract modifications, commercial terms, and client requirements.
- Review prime contract terms to identify legal, business, financial, operational, and long-term commercial implications.
- Negotiate significant contracts and contract changes under challenging conditions while maintaining company objectives and project requirements.
- Identify contractual risks, non-standard terms, commercial exposures, and clauses that do not align with company policy.
- Provide practical recommendations to senior management on risk allocation, negotiation positions, and contract administration strategies.
- Support project, division, company, and corporate strategic planning activities related to risk assessment, bid decisions, and business planning.
- Participate in bid and no-bid reviews, commercial evaluations, and early-stage project risk discussions where contract input is required.
- Maintain active oversight of contract administration processes to ensure accurate records, timely actions, and proper compliance with contractual obligations.
- Supervise lower-level contract managers and contract administrators, ensuring high-quality contract support across assigned project packages.
- Select personnel, make staffing assignments, guide team workloads, and monitor work output for consistency, quality, and commercial accuracy.
- Provide training, coaching, and professional development support for contract personnel assigned to the project.
- Keep team members informed about current contract administration practices, negotiation issues, reference materials, and relevant commercial developments.
- Maintain active participation in professional networks or industry bodies to stay updated on current contractual and commercial issues.
- Coordinate with the Project Director, department management, senior GBU leadership, project teams, suppliers, government agencies, and client contract administrators.
- Support dispute avoidance by maintaining clear contractual communication, strong documentation, and timely escalation of potential commercial issues.
- Review correspondence, negotiation records, contract files, and commercial documents to ensure the company's position is properly protected.
- Perform additional contract management and commercial responsibilities associated with the position as required.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
- Minimum 15 years of prime contract administration experience within a large international engineering or construction organization.
- Strong experience managing commercial and contract activities on complex construction, infrastructure, stabilization, civil engineering, or major project environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of industry business practices, prime contract negotiation, contract administration, and commercial risk management.
- Proven ability to independently negotiate highly complex contractual issues with clients, suppliers, government agencies, and project stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of legal, financial, business, operational, and long-term implications of contract negotiation and maintenance.
- Experience identifying contractual risks, non-conforming terms, commercial exposures, and policy compliance issues.
- Ability to manage and direct contract teams working on complex project situations and multiple contract packages.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to prepare clear contractual correspondence, reports, recommendations, and negotiation positions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with senior management, project directors, client representatives, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of PC software packages commonly used in contract administration, reporting, tracking, and document management.
- MRICS accreditation is preferred.
- Willingness to travel to client offices or project sites when required before contract approval or during contract execution.
