Virtucruit is partnering with a leading mining company in Saudi Arabia to appoint a Lead Drillers within the Drilling Department. The role involves supervising drill operations, sample collection, and equipment maintenance on surface and underground rigs in challenging terrains.

The position emphasizes safety, teamwork and ability to work in shifts at remote mine sites, with development opportunities and a competitive, tax-free salary package.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Technical Diploma or equivalent; high school considered with relevant experience.
• Experience: 5+ years on Surface and Underground drill rigs; familiarity with RC/Diamond Core rigs preferred.
• Strong safety awareness and ability to work in remote locations in KSA.

Responsibilities

• Lead all drill operations, including fluids mixing, tool assembly and pipe handling.
• Operate drill rig machinery to control rotation, weight on bit and mud rate.
• Record daily equipment hours and performance data; ensure proper labeling and core handling.
• Coordinate rig moves, maintenance, and logistics with the Drilling Supervisor and M&R team.
• Mentor and develop local staff; support training and knowledge transfer.

Virtucruit is partnering with a leading mining company in Saudi Arabia to appoint an Lead Drillers within the Drilling Department.

Drill Operations: Lead all activities on the drill, including mixing drilling fluids, assembling drilling tools, connecting sections of drill pipe, and operating machinery. Equipment Operation: Operating machinery to raise and lower the drill string and bit, maintaining speed of rotation, weight on the bit, and mud circulation rate. Sample Collection – Ensure bags/cores are labeled correctly, are legible, kept in numeric order according to designated footages and closed securely

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Ensures the highest level of safety, health and environmental work standards are maintained.
• Safety Compliance: Adhering to all health and safety regulations and procedures.
• Carry out inspections and simple maintenance, and repairs on Surface and Underground exploration drill rigs - Boyles and Diamec. Coordinate more difficult repairs with the Supervisor and M&R team
• Record and report equipment hours, and performance data daily in the Daily Reports.
• Logistics and Maintenance: Supporting the lead driller in logistics and maintenance activities.
• Manage the rigging up/down and moving to new drill locations.
• Fueling of site equipment and assist in preventative maintenance (Oil Changes, Greasing, Fueling, etc.)
• Complete daily site inspections, mast inspections and pre-shift inspections on all equipment.
• Maximize Core recovery and monitor hole direction targets
• Trouble shooting of complex down hole problems
• Identify basic mechanical issues on the drill rig
• Maintain a safe work site and equipment
• Comply with Health & Safety requirements and regulations
• Other duties assigned by the Drilling Supervisor
• Supports the development and training of local nationals by providing mentorship, guidance and coaching, leading to their growth and development.

Qualifications and experience

• Standard First Aid Certification (Basic Safety Orientation is an asset)
• Technical Diploma or High School with equivalent years of experience.
• 5+ years of experience in Surface and Underground exploration drill rigs (Epiroc, Boart Longyear and Sandvik preferred).
• Previous experience working on a RC / Diamond Core Drill rig (Preferred)
• Physical Stamina: The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift heavy objects and stand for extended periods.
• Basic Knowledge of Drilling Operations: Understanding of drilling processes and procedures.
• Attention to Detail: Ensuring accurate record-keeping and proper equipment operation.
• Teamwork: Working effectively with the lead driller and other members of the drilling crew. Good English communication skills (both oral and written).
• Willing to travel as required.
• Willing to work outside and/or in a shop environment.
• Holding a transferable Iqama and being available in the Kingdom is an advantage.
• Must be able to drive light 4x4 vehicle and hold a Valid Driver's License
• Local to the KSA or willing to relocate. (Rooster offered for Expats)
• Willingness to work in shifts / flexible time schedules
• Willing to work in remote locations and in all-weather elements

Training and Development:

Assistant drillers can be trained to become lead drillers, requiring experience and specialized training.
